The Colorado Rockies took the field for one last time in 2012 Wednesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field and came off with a victory and series win over Arizona, 2-1.

For the Rockies, left-handed starting pitcher Jeff Francis made his 24th start on the season and turned in one of his finer performances. Francis turned in five innings of one run ball to earn his sixth win of the season. He was supported by Jordan Pacheco, who went 3-for-4.

Right-handed starting pitcher Ian Kennedy opposed Francis and tossed seven innings of scoreless ball while striking out eight batters and walking none.

Twenth-four-year-old Rex Brothers was summoned by Colorado skipper Jim Tracy and asked to close the door with a five-out save, but the southpaw was unable to get the final out of the game. Instead, it was Matt Belisle, who earned the save by recording just one out.

The Colorado Rockies wrap up a disastrous 2012 season on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with mostly rookies in the starting lineup, as has been the case for months. The Rockies will get a second shot to win the series, after closer Rafael Betancourt blew Tuesday's game by allowing a three-run, walkoff homer to Aaron Hill.

Here are the full lineups:

Rockies

1. Josh Rutledge 2B
2. Charlie Blackmon LF
3. Jordan Pacheco 1B
4. Wilin Rosario C
5. Tyler Colvin CF
6.
D-Backs

Veteran lefty Jeff Francis (5-7, 5.75 ERA), who could be pitching his last game in a Rockies uniform (again), will take the mound for Colorado. He'll be opposed by Arizona's Ian Kennedy (15-11, 4.16 ERA).

The Colorado Rockies have endured their most dismal season in franchise history, having already set a franchise record for losses with 98. They look to end the season on a high note with a series win against their NL West rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jeff Francis (5-7, 5.75) gets the start in the final game of the 2012 season. The veteran lefthander wasn't even in the in Colorado organization at the start of the season, but has been respectable in the rotation since returning to Denver. Francis' last start was unimpressive, allowing five earned runs in just four innings against Los Angeles.

Arizona will counter with Ian Kennedy (15-11, 4.16), who has not been as impressive this season after receiving serious Cy Young consideration in 2011. Kennedy last faced the Rockies two starts ago, going six innings and allowing four earned runs.

The Diamondbacks currently sit at 81-80, meaning that a victory in the last game of the season would give them a winning record for the second straight season.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. MT. Broadcast will be available on ROOT and 850 KOA

For a second night in a row the Colorado Rockies were unable to close things out in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but, unlike on Monday, Tuesday's game ended in a 5-3 loss. Aaron Hill hit a three-run home run off closer Rafael Betancourt to end the game.

The Diamondbacks scored all of their runs on home runs, with the other two coming in the seventh inning on a John McDonald two-run shot off Guillermo Moscoso.

The Rockies opened the scoring in the second inning on a Charlie Blackmon double play and then regained the lead in the eighth inning on a Jordan Pacheco two-run double that had been set up by a Josh Rutledge single and a Tyler Colvin double.

Jhoulys Chacin finished the season at 3-5 with a 4.43 ERA after pitching five shutout innings. He struck out four while allowing three hits and two walks. Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin (6-8, 4.54 ERA) went seven innings and surrendered a run on Blackmon's double play. David Hernandez allowed the Pacheco two-run double. Brad Ziegler (6-1) picked up the win.

The Rockies (63-98, 28-52 away) close out the season on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. MT, with Ian Kennedy and Jeff Francis the projected starters.

The Rockies (63-97) avoided a 100-loss season with a 7-5 win over Arizona Monday, but they've already set a record for losses in a season.

Heading into their second-to-last game of the season, they'll throw Jhoulys Chacin against the Diamondbacks in the second of a three-game series in Phoenix.

With a 13-inning, 7-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night, the Rockies guaranteed that they wouldn't reach 100 losses in 2012, although their 97 losses is already a franchise worst. With little left to play for on Tuesday, Jhoulys Chacin can at least take advantage of an opportunity to end his 2012 season on a high note.

The season certainly didn't begin as planned for Chacin, who lost three of his first five starts before a pectoral injury held him out of the lineup for the next three months. He finally returned to start on Aug. 21 and earned his first victory of the season.

Since his return, Chacin has a 3-2 record, including a win over the Cubs in his most recent start. To earn a win in his final start of the season, Chacin will have to hold the Diamondbacks in check and best Patrick Corbin.

September was the worst month of the season for Corbin, who finished the month with a 1-2 record and 7.40 ERA. In each of his last two starts, Corbin had to be pulled from the mound after only three innings, including a Sept. 22 game against the Rockies when he allowed nine hits, five earned runs and two home runs in just three innings.

The first pitch on Tuesday is scheduled to be thrown at 7:40 p.m. MT at Chase Field and will be televised on Root Sports-Rocky Mountain and FOX Sports Arizona.

Troy Tulowitzki won't play in either of the Colorado Rockies' final two games

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki hasn't played in a Major League game since May 30. Turns out that will be the last Major League action Tulowitzki sees in 2012.

The Rockies' all-star shortstop won't return to the field for either of team's two final regular season games on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday or Wednesday, according to the Denver Post. He played in an instructional league game on Monday, playing six innings and hitting a homer. But the team will hold him out of any real action.

Tulowitzki was hitting .287 with 8 homers and 27 RBIs before going down with a groin injury May 30. He was scheduled to return to the team in mid-September but suffered setbacks in his rehab assignments.

The report goes on to mention that teams could inquire about trading for the two-time all-star, but the Rockies will likely hold on to the 27-year-old star.

The Colorado Rockies will not be losing 100 games in 2012. It took them far too long, but they managed to pull out a 7-5 win in extra innings on Monday. Sure, they may still lose 99 games, but at least it's not a big, round number. In a month as bad as September had been, avoiding big, round numbers was the best the team could really hope for.

Colorado's offense started off slowly, and the Diamondbacks were able to get a couple of runs on the scoreboard as Aaron Hill and Geraldo Parra both hit solo home runs in the first and fifth innings.

Drew Pomeranz had one of his best outings of the season, striking out seven in five innings while allowing the two solo home runs, but only three hits total. Unfortunately, another chance at a win eluded him despite one of his better nights on the mound.

It took until the seventh inning for the Rockies to solve Arizona's starter Wade Miley, pushing the score to 2-1 on a Wilin Rosario solo strike. Finally, the Rockies managed to string some more consistent offense together on in the eighth inning when Josh Rutiledge and Tyler Colvin put together back-to-back doubles to get two runs on the board and make it 3-2.

Rafael Betancourt was sent in to finish off the dirty work in the ninth, but blew the save when he allowed a solo home run to Paul Goldschmidt that tied the game up.

Colorado repeatedly blew chances to take a lead in the late innings, getting two men on in both the 10th and 12th innings. Both times, it came to nothing. Eventually, it worked out in the 13th inning when Colvin and Chris Nelson strung together back-to-back hits to knock in their fourth run of the game. Brad Bergesen ended up loading the bases for the Rockies when he walked Matt McBride, and Charlie Blackmon singled to push the score to 5-3.

Johnny Herrera reached on a Fielder's Choice to make it 6-3. Mike Zagurski gave the Rockies a free seventh run after a wild pitch, and finally ended the top of the inning by forcing Josh Rutledge into a lineout right after.

Down 7-3, the D-Backs got two men on thanks to Josh Outman becoming walk-happy early in the bottom of the 13th. They brought in Josh Roenkie, but the damage was already done. The bases loaded quickly and the D-Backs got two runs out of a walk-in and a sac-fly. The damage mercifully stopped there, and the Rockies took home the 7-5 win.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday at 7:40 p.m. MT.
