The Colorado Rockies finished their first sweep in quite a while when they knocked out the Chicago Cubs 7-5 on Thursday at Coors Field in their final home game of 2012.

Colorado started the game off with hot bats and never looked back, starting with a three-run first inning and two innings with two runs apiece immediately after. Led by a two-hit, three-RBI day from Jordan Pacheco, the Rockies had already put themselves up 7-2 by the time the third inning was over. Battered starting pitcher Chris Volstad was pulled at that point, settling the game down a bit. Chicago got one more run off a Bryan Lahair single, which ended the scoring until the ninth inning.

Matt Belisle had a shaky start to the ninth inning and gave the Rockies a bit of a scare as he allowed Anthony Rizzo to smack in a fourth run for the Cubs. He was quickly pulled in favor of Rafael Betancourt, who quickly allowed a run but was able to stop the bleeding after that with two strikeouts to end the game at 7-5.

Jhoulys Chacin had a solid if unspectacular day on the mound for the Rockies, earning his third win of the season while allowing three runs on seven hits. His control was a bit iffy, allowing four walks to only two strikeouts, but it was another promising start for the recovering righty.

The sweep of Chicago pushes the Rockies to 62-94, completely knocking out the chance of a dreaded 100-loss season, barring six straight losses to end the year. They'll face the Los Angeles Dodgers in LA for a three-game series next before closing the year in Arizona.

After another rainy night in Denver saw another Colorado Rockies victory over the Chicago Cubs, Colorado will seek to finish the sweep when the teams meet Thursday afternoon.

In a game that was delayed by rain for an hour and 24 minutes in the seventh inning on Wednesday, the Rockies scored all six of their runs in the first three innings to cruise for the win. Starter Drew Pomeranz got his second victory of the season, tossing five innings and giving up only three hits in his contribution towards the shutout.

Jhoulys Chacin (2-5, 4.73 ERA) will start for Colorado on Thursday following a no-decision in his last start on Sept. 22 against the Arizona Diamondbacks where he threw four innings and surrendered three earned runs in the 8-7 loss.

The Cubs will send Chris Volstad (3-10, 6.22 ERA) to the mound. Volstad also notched a no-decision in his previous start on Sept. 21 after going five innings and giving up three earned runs in a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. MT at Coors Field, and the game will be seen on Root Sports.

For the second-straight night, the Colorado Rockies defeated the Chicago Cubs in a rain-effected game, claiming a 6-0 win after a near 90-minute rain delay during the seventh inning.

The win marks the third straight for the Rockies (61-94), wins that have come after a nine-game losing streak. Tuesday night, Colorado picked up a shortened 10-5 win over the Cubs (59-96) when rain ended the game in the seventh inning.

Drew Pomeranz (2-9) picked up his first win since July 6, striking out three in his five shutout innings. First baseman Jordan Pacheco got the scoring started for the Rockies in the first inning, hitting an RBI double before later being driven home. Colorado would add four more runs in the third inning, keyed by a leadoff solo home run from Charlie Blackmon.

The Rockies go for the series sweep Thursday with Jhoulys Chacin (2-5, 4.73 ERA) on the mound, who will pitch against Chicago's Chris Volstad (3-10, 6.22).

All of a sudden, the Colorado Rockies are on a winning streak. After snapping their nine-game losing skid, they won their second straight on Monday night in a rain drenched game against the Chicago Cubs. Drew Pomeranz might finally get a chance to get his second win of the season, which has eluded him all year, against the Cubs in game two of their series on Tuesday.

Pomeranz (1-9, 5.30 ERA) has had a mixture of bad baseball and bad luck in his first full season with the Rockies and hasn't gotten a win in his last thirteen starts. He'll face off against Jason Berken (0-1, 3.27 ERA), who will be starting only his third game of the season for the Cubs.

The Colorado offense has lit aflame over the past two games, led by rookie of the year candidate Willin Rosario leading the way. Rosario hit his 27th home run of the season against the Cubs on Monday and has put together a long streak of three-hit games.

The game will be at Coors Field at 6:40 p.m. MT.

Unable to make it through a full nine innings on Tuesday night due to rain, the Colorado Rockies won a seven-inning game with the Chicago Cubs to kick off the series, 10-5.

Rockies hitters racked up 15 hits in the win, and were led by a pair of three-hit performances from Chris Nelson and DJ LeMahieu. The 24-year-old LeMahieu not only finished a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, but ended the game just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.

Forced to stop play in the top of the seventh inning, the two teams endured a 48-minute rain delay before the game was eventually called by umpires. Rockies pitcher Carlos Torres walked away with his fifth victory of the season for his work to help spell left-handed starter Jorge De La Rosa, while Cubs pitcher Chris Rusin saw his earned-run average climb to 7.30 with the woeful effort that earned him the loss.

The Rockies will use Drew Pomeranz (1-9, 5.30 ERA) on Wednesday in Game 2 of the series against winless Chicago righty Jason Berken (0-1, 3.27 ERA).

Despite being red-hot from the plate as a team on Tuesday night, the Colorado Rockies were forced to take shelter in the dugout due to a rain delay in their game with the Chicago Cubs.

The Rockies responded accordingly after serving up three Chicago runs in the top of the first, and managed to plate a whopping 10 runs on 15 hits before even having a chance to bat in the bottom of the seventh. While all eight starting position players have already recorded a base hit in the game, no player has been more integral to Tuesday's offensive explosion than second baseman DJ LeMahieu.

The 24-year-old LeMahieu entered the day with just one career home run in 262 career at-bats, but is currently exactly one homer short of hitting for the cycle against the Cubs due to a monster 3-3 night. A significant piece of the Tyler Colvin trade with the Cubs back in December of last year, LeMahieu's RBI double in the fourth helped the Rockies chase Chicago starter Chris Rusin from the mound prematurely.

The Chicago Cubs will come to Coors Field starting on Tuesday for a battle against the Colorado Rockies for the second overall pick in the draft.

The road to 100 losses for the Colorado Rockies got a short pit stop on Monday when they won a 4-2 game over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now they'll face off against the Chicago Cubs in a battle for the No. 2 draft pick next season.

Colorado (59-94) and Chicago (59-94) are both a bit too far away from the Houston Astros to catch them at the first overall pick, but they can battle it out for second place at the bottom of the standings.

Jorge De La Rosa (0-1, 12.27 ERA) will look to rebound from his awful first start of the year with the Rockies in the first game against the Cubs. He'll face off against Chris Rusin (1-2, 6.00 ERA), who is looking for his second win of the season in his rookie year.

With the nine-game losing streak monkey off their backs, the Rockies need to play better than .500 ball throughout the rest of the season if they want to stay away from the 100-loss mark. Against the Cubs, they'll have their best chance at snatching a few wins as the season draws to a close.
