Denver Broncos head coach John Fox and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio have been fined for their criticism of the NFL's replacement officials during Week 2's Monday night loss to the Atlanta Falcons, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Fox received a $30,000 fine while Del Rio was charged $25,000.

Schefter reported on Sunday that the NFL even called into Atlanta during last week's game to tell the coaches to cool off their behavior directed at the officials. During the game, Fox and Del Rio were actively pestering officials on calls in which they didn't agree.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said the NFL told the replacement officials to "be more assertive" in dealing with the league's head coaches. Ray Anderson, the NFL executive vice president of football operations, told La Canfora the league sent out a memo warning coaches that the league would be very strict regarding the behavior such as that seen by Fox and Del Rio.

Brock Osweiler may not have the starting quarterback job in Denver, but the Broncos coaches feel he can throw it longer than Peyton Manning.

Osweiler was warming up on the sideline with the possibility of the Broncos getting the ball back with under two minutes to play. In that situation, Osweiler would have thrown what figured to be, after the punt, a pass of around 70 yards. The Broncos trailed the host Falcons 27-21, and it would have been Osweiler's first regular season snap as a pro.

He told the Denver Post, "I was going in for the Hail Mary," Osweiler said. "I'm not sure what the dividing line was as far as me going in, but I was getting ready to go in."

Osweiler is known for having a very strong arm, and the 35-year-old Manning has said he's still getting his arm strength back after multiple neck surgeries kept him out of football in 2011.

Atlanta's Michael Turner rushed for a 15-yard gain with 1:54 remaining, and Osweiler never appeared. The Falcons knelt it out after that, taking the win to move to 2-0. Denver (1-1) will host Houston in Week 3.

The Denver Broncos avoided major injuries their week two matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Denver Broncos avoided major injuries in their loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. No Broncos were knocked out the game, and that is good news that should lessen the sting of the failed comeback attempt.

One player did miss some action, and that was linebacker Joe Mays. The problem was nothing serious, as Mays was suffering from cramping in the second half, according to the Canon City Daily Record. He was able to return to the game later.

The Broncos will look to bounce back when they face the Houston Texans in an important early-season AFC showdown on Sunday. The Texans are 2-0 after a pair of 20-point victories over Miami and Jacksonville. The two teams meet at 2:25 MT in Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.

After his first eight throws on Monday Night Football against the Falcons, Peyton Manning had already thrown three interceptions. The interceptions, along with a fourth first-quarter turnover after a Knowshon Moreno fumble, gave the Falcons enough offensive opportunities to earn a 20-0 lead early in the first half.

While Manning completed 20 of his next 29 passes, including a touchdown and no interceptions, the damage had been done and a late comeback attempt fell short. Atlanta won, 27-21. Following the game, Manning told reporters that he shouldn't have tried to make the passes that resulted in interceptions.

"Everybody was covered. I should have thrown the balls away," Manning told the Denver Post. "There are some things I have to correct."

Manning finished the game with a 58.5 passer rating, the lowest mark for him since a game against the Browns on Nov. 30, 2008.

Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol early Tuesday morning outside of Atlanta, not long after rushing for a touchdown and 42 yards to help the Falcons beat the Denver Broncos 27-21 on Monday Night Football.

The 30-year-old running back was jailed in Gwinnett County, Ga., after 5 a.m. ET, before posting bail. Turner was reportedly driving 95 MPH on I-85, where the speed limit is 65 MPH. The Falcons had this to say in a statement:

"We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time."

The Broncos did a good job in limiting Turner despite the touchdown, holding the former Pro Bowler to only 2.5 yards per carry.

Manning threw three interceptions on the Broncos' first three possessions:

"I'd obviously like to have all three of them back," said Manning, who finished 24 of 37 for 241 yards and one touchdown. "Just three bad decisions. ... When I see the film, I'm sure I'll see someone open short underneath on the check down."

Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post writes about Denver's lack of a pass rush Monday night after a five-sack performance in Week 1, but notable by his absence from the stat sheet in both games has been pass-rush specialist Elvis Dumervil.

There was some excitement near the end of the game as a comeback seemed to be brewing, but the Broncos couldn't overcome a bad first half as they dropped their Monday Night showdown against the Falcons, 27-21.

Peyton Manning and the Denver offense had about as bad a start as a team can have in a football game, turning the ball over four times in the opening quarter. That included a Peyton Manning interception on the very first drive that led to a Michael Turner touchdown for Atlanta less than two minutes into the game. After that, Denver's defense settled down and helped keep the game close, but the Falcons chipped in two field goals and a Matt Ryan touchdown throw to Tony Gonzalez before Denver finally made a move.

Down 20-0, the Broncos finally scored at the very end of the second quarter when Peyton Manning tossed a ball right to the sideline in the end zone, where Demaryius Thomas was forced to make a fantastic catch. After review, the play was ruled a touchdown and the Broncos looked like they would have some life in the second half.

Unfortunately, Denver's defense couldn't contain Atlanta early in the second half for long enough. Matt Ryan added his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter, a toss to Roddy White.

It got interesting later on as Denver started to make a solid comeback bid and the offense finally began to hit a stride. Willis McGahee punched in two touchdowns, both from 2 yards out, to make the score 27-21 with three minutes remaining in the game. Unfortunately, the defense couldn't finish what they started and allowed Matt Ryan to move the chains on the following drive enough times to close the game out.

Denver will look to rebound from their first loss of the season in Week 3 when they face the Houston Texans at Sports Authority Field.

The awful first quarter has apparently been forgotten by the Denver Broncos, as they're starting to scrape their way back into the game in the fourth quarter. With 11:48 remaining in the final frame, the Broncos scored a touchdown off a 2-yard Willis McGahee run to pull the game back to within two scores, 27-14.

Denver's defense did its work efficiently in the first quarter, holding the Falcons to only 10 points even as the team turned the ball over four times. They'll need the same efficiency from the defense late in the game to keep it close so that Peyton Manning and the rest of the offense can continue to chip away at the lead and perhaps steal an unexpected win in the Georgia Dome.
