The Colorado Rapids (8-16-2) continue to see their slim chances of making the Western Conference playoffs dwindle after another loss this week. San Jose easily defeated Colorado 4-1 on Saturday, leaving the Rapids just two points clear of the basement in the Western Conference.

Colorado has only eight games remaining in the 2012 season, but they are 11 points behind the Los Angeles Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps FC for the final two spots in the Western. Those two teams have 37 points each, while Colorado only has 26.

There should be some chances for Colorado to gain at least a little ground because they play a home and home with the last-place Portland Timbers in their next two games. Portland is two points behind Colorado.

New Colorado Rapids signing Hendry Thomas was confirmed to have all of his necessary paperwork put in on Thursday, ending speculation that he would be unavailable for a game or two while the Rapids waited. Chris Bianchi on Twitter broke the news that the ITC and Visa were both ready:

Hendry Thomas' ITC and p-1 visa are both in- will be eligible to play this weekend. <s>#</s>Rapids <s>#</s>MLS

Colorado has dealt with paperwork issues before this season, specifically with Argentine playmaker Martin Rivero. Rivero was held out of the Rapids by his old club Rosario Central for a short time at the start of the 2012 season.

Though Thomas will be available for the Rapids' match against San Jose this weekend, it's very unlikely that fans will see him on the pitch for the first time. He has cited a lack of fitness since joining Colorado, saying he was around "70 or 80 percent" when he showed up after a long layoff without any first-team soccer. A more reasonable expectation would be to see him in one of Colorado's back-to-back games against Portland at the end of August.

Signing Hendry Thomas, a former Wigan Athletic member, was one of the bigger moves in the recent history of the Colorado Rapids and promises to help the midfield of a team that will likely miss the postseason in 2012. According to Wigan Athletic blog Pie Eaters Footie, the move to sign Thomas is a great one for the Rapids.

You will never need to moan or complain due to his tireless work rate and effort, which sees him run from the first to the last minute, even if he is injured. On the whole I couldn't say a bad word about him, he isn't an attacking midfielder, so don't expect any spectacular goals or even efforts to hit the target. Nor that defense splitting pass, he can move the ball about, but when it comes to chances Hendry is better at breaking them up rather than creating them.

All in all you are signing yourself a gem of a player who will surely help to beef up any midfield.

The terms of Thomas's contract with the Rapids have not yet been released.

It was assumed on Sunday night that the Colorado Rapids had signed former Wigan Athletic midfielder Hendry Thomas because of a couple of reports out of Honduras, but there was nothing from the American media that indicated it was true.

Now, it looks like the signing has been made official as many American outlets including the Denver Post have finally started releasing the story from team sources.

The Colorado Rapids moved to replace long-suffering captain Pablo Mastroeni by taking a risk on former English Premier League midfielder Hendry Thomas.

The club on Monday was waiting to finalize paperwork with Major League Soccer before announcing the signing of Thomas. Terms and dollar amounts of the deal were not available.

The team itself has not released any news on the story as of yet as they are getting through paperwork with the league, which handles all player transactions between the teams.

The Colorado Rapids have reportedly signed former Wigan Athletic midfielder Hendry Thomas.

Colorado Rapids president Tim Hinchey hinted on twitter before the weekend that a big signing was coming soon, and it looks like he was correct as the Rapids have reportedly inked former Wigan Athletic midfielder Hendry Thomas to a contract. Reports out of Honduras reported the signing was complete, along with a picture of Thomas in a Rapids jersey.

The Rapids have not made an official report on the signing as of yet, though they had confirmed they were looking to sign Thomas and he was in Colorado on Sunday.

Thomas is the most recent pick up in what has been a busy year of transfers for the Rapids in the midfield. They had formerly signed Harrison Henao for the defensive midfield but he was released after scarse appearances with the first team. Thomas has been a mainstay on the Honduran national team for years and played 55 appearances with Wigan over the last three seasons.
