The Rockies couldn't outlast the Giants on Sunday as they fell 8-3 to complete the series sweep. Tim Lincecum wasn't brilliant against Colorado but he was solid enough to record the win. Lincecum gave up just one earned run on five hits in six innings pitched.

Tyler Chatwood wasn't bad either, but his luck was a bit different. Chatwood only pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up three runs in that span, but just one of them was earned. The Giants wasted absolutely no time getting on the scoreboard, with Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence both plating runs in the opening inning.

Jordan Pacheco led the way for the Rockies offensively going 2-3 with one run batted in. The other two runs for Colorado were brought in by Carlos Gonzalez's RBI single in the seventh and a too-little-too-late RBI single by Matt McBride in the ninth.

The Rockies acquired Sanchez from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Jeremy Guthrie -- one of the biggest disappointments for the Rockies in 2012 -- back in July. Sanchez is 0-3 in three starts for the Rockies, allowing five, six and two runs, respectively, in those games. He has a 9.53 ERA with the Rockies and an 8.07 ERA overall this season.

Chatwood has had two stints with the Rockies, both as a reliever, but this will be his first start with them. He holds a 7.62 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies' weekend thus far has been a disaster and they are on the verge of being swept by the San Francisco Giants. Having dropped the first two games, 16-4 and 11-6, the Rockies have already assured another series loss. The Rockies have not won a series yet during the second half of the season.

The Rockies will have Tyler Chatwood (1-1, 7.62 ERA) on the mound for the first time since July 5, when he was up with the team for a short spell as a reliever. He had spent the first couple of weeks of the season with the Rockies, too, but most of his season has been down with the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox. However, he was moved down to Double-A Tulsa recently and has gone 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts. He's the next man up in the fight to provide good pitching for the Rockies.

Tim Lincecum (5-11, 5.62 ERA) is not having the typical season we have come to expect from him, and he certainly hasn't fared well against the Rockies in two starts this season. On April 11, he allowed six runs in 2.1 innings at Coors Field. Ultimately, the Rockies won that game, 17-8. Then on May 15, in San Francisco, Lincecum allowed four runs in seven innings and took a no-decision in the 5-4 loss. Still, Lincecum is coming off one of his better starts of the season, allowing one run in seven innings to the New York Mets. The Giants won that game, 4-1.

This game starts at 1:10 p.m. MT and can be seen on ROOT Sports and heard on KOA 850.

Another night, another poor pitching performance for the Colorado Rockies. The San Francisco struck for 11 runs against starter Jeff Francis (3-4, 6.02 ERA) and recently recalled reliever Edgmer Escalona. The Rockies came up with six runs, but Giants starter Madison Bumgarner (12-6, 3.03 ERA) allowed just one run in six innings of work.

Buster Posey put the Giants on the board with a two-run home run in the first inning and Melky Cabrera extended it to 3-0 with a third-inning home run. A bunch of singles and a bases-loaded walk put three more runs on the board for a 6-0 lead. Francis's night ended after 3.2 innings.

The Rockies finally got on board in the sixth inning when Josh Rutledge hit his sixth home run of the season, scoring the first run. In the seventh inning, just called up Matt McBride, playing first base, doubled in a run to make the game 6-2.

Escalona pitched the eighth inning and was hit around for four runs, though the last run scored on a sac fly while Mike Ekstrom was on the mound. Catcher Wilin Rosario was playing third base at this point and he cut off a throw from the outfield, thus creating a throwing error when he attempted to get the out at home plate. That scored the first run and changed the game's tempo in favor of the Giants once again.

The Rockies (38-67, 21-36 home), already assured of a series loss, close out the series at 1:10 p.m. MT.

The Colorado Rockies will have a couple of new bodies with the team on Saturday night when they look to take one from the San Francisco Giants. While the corresponding transactions are not yet known, outfielder Matt McBride and pitcher Edgmer Escalona will be the two players called up, according to LehighValleyLive.com.

McBride, we'll recall, was one of the other players the Cleveland Indians sent the Rockies in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade last July. Playing for Triple-A Colorado Springs, McBride was a Pacific Coast League All-Star and is currently hitting .354/.380/.561 with 10 home runs and 77 RBI. He can also play first base and catcher.

Escalona spent the end of April and a few days in May with the Rockies, going 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA in seven appearances. At Triple-A Colorado Springs, he is 3-2 with 3.05 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

McBride and Escalona are likely coming up for Christian Friedrich, who is out for the season with a back injury, and possibly outfielder Michael Cuddyer, currently dealing with an oblique injury.

The Colorado Rockies had a horrible time at it on Friday night, losing to the San Francisco Giants, 16-4. In a season that has seen some bad pitching, it obviously didn't get any better in the last game. Jonathan Sanchez allowed two runs in three innings and then the bullpen collapsed over the final three innings of the game, allowing 13 runs.

Jeff Francis (3-3, 5.43 ERA) will look to turn around that bad pitching on Saturday, and he'll need to do it by rebounding from his own bad start. The last time out, the Cardinals hit him up for five runs on six hits in four innings. The Cardinals won that game, 11-6. Over his last four starts, Francis has alternated good starts with bad starts. Will that pattern continue with a good start on Saturday?

If it is, the Rockies will also need to be able to hit the Giants' starter, Madison Bumgarner (11-6, 3.09 ERA). Bumgarner hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his starts since he gave up seven to the Nationals on July 4. He has also pitched seven innings in three of those four starts since then. Earlier in the season, Bumgarner threw 7.1 innings of one-run ball against the Rockies at Coors Field. The Giants won the game, 4-2.

This game starts at 6:10 p.m. MT and can be seen on ROOT Sports and heard on 850 KOA.

Colorado put five pitchers on the hill and each of them gave up at least one earned run.

Jonathan Sanchez picked up the loss for the Rockies. Ryan Vogelsong was the winning pitcher for San Francisco.
