The Arizona Wildcats won their fourth College World Series title -- first since 1986 -- with a 4-1 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Wildcats won Game 1 on Sunday in this best-of-three series by a score of five to one.

This game was a 1-1 pitcher's duel up until the top of the ninth inning. Matt Price, who has been pitching since he relieved Michael Roth in the seventh inning, allowed a leadoff single to outfielder Robert Refsnyder. Price then induced an out on a Seth Mejias-Brean grounder, but Refsnyder advanced to second base. After Bobby Brown intentionally walked, Brandon Dixon doubled down the left field line -- barely -- to score Refsnyder, breaking the 1-1 tie.

Tyler Webb relieved price and struck out Riley Moore for the second out of the inning. However, Trent Gilbert plated his second and third RBI of the night with a single into right field.

Arizona left Matthew Troupe on the mound for the bottom of the ninth inning and got into early troubled with a single and a walk putting two men on with zero outs. He struck out the next batter he faced but then walked the bases loaded. Tanner English lined out to Gilbert at second base and that nearly wound up as a double play, but L.B. Dantzler returned to the plate before Gilbert was able to get the force out. Grayson Greiner popped out to right field to end the game.

The two starting pitchers were outstanding. Arizona's James Farris threw 7.2 innings of one-run ball while South Carolina's Michael Roth -- perhaps the greatest pitcher in Omaha history -- surrendered one run in 6.2 innings.

Arizona went 10-0 through the entire NCAA Baseball Tournament. South Carolina failed to win a third straight title in Omaha.

The Arizona Wildcats lead the South Carolina Gamecocks, 1-0, after five innings of play. That leaves four more innings until the Wildcats can lay claim to the 2012 College World Series championship. Trent Gilbert's RBI ground out in the third inning remains the difference in this game. Joseph Maggi scored that run after reaching base on a double.

South Carolina started Michael Roth and outside of that one run he has been the solid Omaha pitcher we've seen since 2010. He has struck out three batters and allowed just two hits in five innings of work.

Arizona's James Farris has been equally impressive with all of his pitches on Monday night. He has surrendered just one hit in five shutout innings.

Arizona is looking for its first College World Series title since 1986 while South Carolina is looking for a threepeat. As of now, South Carolina is teetering on the brink of collapse.

The 2012 College World Series can come to an end on Monday night should the Arizona Wildcats take Game 2 of the title series. The Wildcats defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks, 5-1, on Sunday night. Arizona received another complete game victory by righty Konner Wade, and outfielder Robert Refsnyder did the big damage with a two-run home run.

South Carolina had to go to Forrest Koumas on Sunday, but for Monday they will have perhaps the best Omaha-tested player in history on the mound: Michael Roth. The senior lefty, Roth threw a complete-game two-hitter against Kent St. on Thursday. This is his third straight year in Omaha and he is looking to keep the Gamecocks' chances at a third straight title alive.

Arizona would have liked to turn to Kurt Heyer for this game, but he isn't quite yet ready since throwing 15 innings over his two Omaha starts. Instead, James Farris, a right-handed sophomore, will take the mound on Monday night. Farris is 7-3 with a 4.18 ERA in 16 starts this season.

Arizona Wildcats sophomore right-hander Konner Wade must certainly be the leading contender for the Most Outstanding Player in the 2012 College World Series after his latest performance. He threw a complete game and allowed just one run in a 5-1 victory against the South Carolina Gamecocks. He has allowed just one run in 18 innings while pitching in Omaha.

Robert Refsnyder hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Alex Mejia drove in a run on a third-inning single to chase South Carolina starter Forrest Koumas from the game. Seth Mejias-Brean and Bobby Brown added an RBI each with singles in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively.

South Carolina will need a win on Monday to force a decisive Game 3 on Tuesday; otherwise, the Wildcats will celebrate their first College World Series title since 1986. Monday's game takes place at 6:00 p.m. MT and will be seen on ESPN.

Arizona Wildcats sophomore right-hander Konner Wade has continued to dominate opposing batters in the 2012 College World Series, now throwing 14 shutout innings so far. He has thrown five shutout innings against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Game 1 of the CWS title series, which Arizona currently leads, 4-0. Wade threw a complete-game shutout against UCLA in his first CWS start.

Arizona struck for two runs against South Carolina starter Forrest Koumas in the first inning. Robert Refsnyder picked up the two RBI on a two-run home run. Alex Mejia singled to left center field in the bottom of the third inning to drive in the third run.

Evan Beal relieved Koumas that inning after the bases were loaded. He got Seth Mejias-Brean to hit into a double play to end the inning. However, Beal got in trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning when Johnny walked and then advanced to second and third on the same play through a wild pitch and a throwing error. Mejias-Brean delivered a single to center field to plate the fourth run of the game.

South Carolina is the two-time defending College World Series champion.

The 2012 College World Series comes down to this: a best-of-three final matchup starting on Sunday between the Arizona Wildcats and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Arizona looks for its first title since 1986 while South Carolina is going for an unprecedented third straight title in Omaha during the Field of 64 era.

Arizona is a well-rested team compared to South Carolina. The Wildcats went 5-0 through the regionals and super regionals and is currently 3-0 in Omaha. Perfection in Omaha would match South Carolina's path from last year. South Carolina, however, has had a grueling time of it over the last several days. A loss to Arkansas put them in the loser's bracket and ended a 12-game winning streak in Omaha. Due to a postponement on Wednesday, South Carolina played and won two elimination games on Thursday before forcing a decisive match with Arkansas on Friday.

Arizona will start sophomore righty Konner Wade (10-3, 4.17 ERA), who has not pitched since June 17. He threw a 4-0 complete game victory against UCLA that day. South Carolina is expected to start sophomore righty Forrest Koumas (2-2, 4.56 ERA), who has made just three starts in his 17 appearances this season.

The 2012 College World Series comes down to a final best-of-three series between the Arizona Wildcats and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Arizona booked its trip to the finals by going 3-0 in the double-elimination portion of the Omaha bracket, defeating Florida St. twice and UCLA once. The road wasn't that easy for South Carolina. They defeated the No. 1 national seed Florida Gators before having a 12-game winning streak in Omaha snapped by the Arkansas Razorbacks. South Carolina, however, bounced back by defeating Kent St. and Arkansas on Thursday (inclement weather postponed the Wednesday game against Kent St.), to force a decisive Friday game against Arkansas. South Carolina won that game, 3-2.

Arizona last won the College World Series in 1986 while head coach Andy Lopez led Pepperdine to the title in 1992. South Carolina has won the last two College World Series titles, beating UCLA in 2010 and Florida in 2011. No team has won the CWS three times in the Field of 64 era.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have returned to the College World Series title series for a third year in a row and the chance to complete a threepeat. On Friday night, the Gamecocks defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks, 3-2, after winning two games on Thursday, including a night victory against Arkansas.

Arkansas had a 2-0 lead after three innings -- third baseman Matt Reynolds driving in both -- but pitching turned on them in the bottom of the fifth inning. Starter D.J. Baxendale put two men on with a single and a walk before seeing Joey Pankake knock a single up the middle for a run. He then issued a walked to load the bases and another one to walk in the tying run. He left the game with all the bases occupied, but the relievers were able to get out of that mess.

Walks came back to haunt the Razorbacks in the bottom of the seventh inning. Colby Suggs walked Pankake and Evan Marzilli. Barrett Astin replaced Suggs, but he loaded the bases with an L.B. Dantzler single. Adam Matthews drew a bases-loaded walk on a 3-2 pitch to put the Gamecocks ahead, 3-2.

Tyler Webb and Matt Price pitched seven innings of relief after Colby Holmes lasted two-plus innings. Webb held the Razorbacks to two hits in four innings while Price struck out five and allowed one hit in three innings. Price also picked up his College World Series-record fifth win.

The Gamecocks play in the best-of-three finals against the Arizona Wildcats starting on Sunday.
