The Colorado Rockies dropped yet another series and in rather surreal fashion on Sunday afternoon. The Rockies fell to the Cincinnati Reds in a 7-5 decision that saw the teams combined to hit nine home runs, five by the Rockies and four by the Reds.

The first eight runs of the game scored on home runs. Joey Votto started things off with his eighth home run of the season when he hit it in the first inning. Troy Tulowitzki countered with his seventh homer of the season in the top of the second inning.

It wasn't the best start for Jamie Moyer (2-5, 5.70 ERA), but it only got worse of the next two innings. Jay Bruce picked up his 11th home run of the season in the second inning, a solo shot, and then Brandon Phillips followed in the third inning with a three-run blast for a 5-1 lead. Moyer allowed two more runs on a Todd Frazier solo home run and a Zack Cozart RBI double.

Carlos Gonzalez came through with two home runs (10) and Michael Cuddyer hit his fifth home run, but they were just solo shots. Reds starter Mat Latos (4-2, 4.58 ERA), who exited after allowing a Dexter Fowler home run in the eighth, never pitched out of the stretch because the five home runs the Rockies hit were the only hits he gave up.

The Rockies (17-29, 8-15 away) are back at Coors Field on Monday for a Memorial Day doubleheader against the Houston Astros.

The Colorado Rockies are trailing 7-3 to the Cincinnati Reds after five innings on Sunday afternoon in a game that's already seen seven home runs get launched. Neither team has been able to keep the ball in the park thus far as batters have teed off at the Great American Ballpark.

The Rockies have never led on Sunday, getting behind 1-0 early on a solo shot from the Reds' Joey Votto. Colorado matched in the second inning with a homer from Troy Tulowitzki, but the Reds opened up the game with a three-run bomb by Brandon Phillips the following inning.

Michael Cuddyer and Carlos Gonzalez have also hit homers for the Rockies, while Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier have also gone deep for Cincinnati. Colorado hasn't had a runner get on base yet in the game; all three of the Rockies' hits have been homers and Reds starter Mat Latos hasn't allowed a walk yet.

As quickly as the Colorado Rockies' winning streak, it went away in just a hurry. The Rockies' pitching failed to handle the Cincinnati Reds' bats carefully and wounds up causing a 10-3 loss on Saturday night. The Rockies can change things on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of this contest.

The Rockies turn to Jamie Moyer (2-4, 4.99 ERA), who just had his worst start of the season. He allowed six runs in 3.2 innings -- including a scoreboard-breaking grand slam to Giancarlo Stanton -- in a 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Monday. He walked four batters as well. It might not be premature to write that Moyer is likely pitching for his life in the rotation. With Jorge De La Rosa's return pushed back and Drew Pomeranz still working things out in the minors, Moyer certainly has a bit more time, but his time is ticking.

Opposing Moyer will be a familiar face to the Rockies: Mat Latos (3-2, 4.35 ERA). After spending the first three years of his career with the San Diego Padres, Latos moved to the Reds through an offseason trade. He has turned in a solid May so far, going 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA and 30 strikeouts in four starts (23 innings).

The Colorado Rockies (17-28) added their 7th loss out of their last 9 games as they dropped Saturday night's game, 10-3, to the Cincinnati Reds (26-20).

SP Jeremy Guthrie lasted only 5 innings, but did manage to strike out 5 hitters while walking only 1. Unfortunately for the Rockies, though, a key first inning throwing error from 3B Jordan Pacheco allowed the Reds to score 4 runs with two outs. All told, Guthrie allowed 10 hits and 2 home runs to put Colorado in a 6-3 deficit by the bottom of the fourth inning.

Pacheco (3 for 4 with a double), 2B Marco Scutaro (2 for 5 with a double) and OF Tyler Colvin (2 for 4 with 1 BB) all performed well at the plate, but could not outdo the Reds impressive lineup.

Colorado and Cincinatti will wrap up their series on Sunday at 11:10 a.m. MDT.

With Dexter Fowler still recovering from an ankle injury that's kept him out of the past few games, the Colorado Rockies will be starting Tyler Colvin in center field once again as they face the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. Fowler hasn't played since May 23, when he struck out while pinch-hitting against the Miami Marlins.

The Rockies also have Wil Nieves making his debut with the team at catcher in place of the injured Ramon Hernandez, who was recently placed on the disabled list with a left hand sprain. The 34-year-old Nieves had been hitting .299/.330/.448 over 98 plate appearances with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Rockies started off the Memorial Day weekend with a solid 6-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds to start a two-game winning streak, a rare occurrence for the team this season. The Rockies will get right back at it on Saturday evening with the Reds for a chance at three victories in a row.

Colorado's Jeremy Guthrie (2-2, 5.55 ERA) is out to correct the mistakes of his last start, a 6-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners. He allowed all six runs in six innings, including four runs on three home runs. This time on the mound will be just his third start since coming off the disabled list from a shoulder injury, but it will also be his first career start at the Great American Ball Park.

Cincinnati's Mike Leake (1-5, 5.32 ERA) picked up his first victory of the season in his last start, surrendering just one run in eight innings to the Atlanta Braves at the GABP. He struck out six in the 4-1 win. Leake has made one career start against the Rockies -- in 2011 at the GABP -- and he surrendered two runs on 11 hits in 7.1 innings, for whatever that might be worth. The Reds won that game, 3-2
