Recently retired running back LaDainian Tomlinson raised some eyebrows recently when he said he considered playing for the Denver Broncos this season because of the presence of Peyton Manning. Apparently, the feeling wasn't mutual. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports the Broncos never offered Tomlinson a contract.

While the pairing of two future Hall of Fame inductees in the Denver backfield would have been a sight to behold, it's hard to fault the Broncos for opting for youth rather than the weary legs of LDT. Tomlinson celebrated his 33rd birthday this weekend and posting only 280 yards and one touchdown last season as a member of the New York Jets.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas burst onto the national radar with a game-winning 80-yard touchdown catch in overtime to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in last season's the NFL playoffs. If Thomas can serve as big-play threat playing in a nontraditional offense led by Tim Tebow, what can the receiver do in his third year now that future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning is throwing him the ball?

That's the question on everyone's mind in Denver. On Friday, Thomas talked openly about the pressure he felt when Manning signed. The 24-year old doesn't want to let down his new QB.

"I’ve watched a lot of film from his Colts' days to get some pointers. There really weren’t any of his receivers who were like me. ... I know Peyton is looking forward to it."

Thomas is 6-foot-3, 235 lbs, and is considered to have top-end speed. He posted 32 catches for 551 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games a season ago.

The Denver Broncos missed kicker Matt Prater in minicamp this past week due to a holdout. Prater received the franchise tag earlier in the offseason to prevent him from leaving through free agency and the two sides continue to negotiate a long-term deal. But they have about month to work out a deal before Prater would be locked into his $2.6-plus million one-year deal, reports the Denver Post.

July 26 is the first day of practice after training camp opens the previous day. Ten days before that is when we'll know -- if it doesn't happen earlier -- Prater's salary for the season. According to the Denver Post, the Broncos' latest offer would pay him over $3 million per year.

Prater was nails between the 20-39 yard marks and then at 50-plus while he made three-of-seven between 40-49 yards. Several of those 50-plus yard attempts came at crunch time after Tim Tebow led his team down the field but just short of the end zone. With Peyton Manning around, we'll need to see if Prater needs to come up with those big kicks often this fall.

The Denver Broncos made the most publicized off-season signing in some time when the team inked future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning to a five-year, $96 million deal. While Manning is still fighting his way back from a neck injury that cost him all of last season, the sizable upgrade over Tim Tebow at the game's most important position had some around Denver thinking a division championship was all but assured. Turns out, Las Vegas is thinking less and less of the Broncos' chances. The team's over/under win total now sits at 8.5 games.

What doesn't match up is that the San Diego Chargers, at nine games, now have a higher over/under win total than Denver, but the Broncos still boast better odds to win the Super Bowl and the AFC West.

The 2012 Denver Broncos minicamp is about to get under way, but the mile high team will possibly be sans three of their players. The trio of K Matt Prater, QB Brock Osweiler and RB Ronnie Hillman remained unsigned heading into minicamp and may not participate in the team's first mandatory practices -- unless something changes soon.

The 28-year-old Prater finished the 2011 NFL season with a 76 percent success rate, hitting on 19 of his 25 attempts, and he sports a 78.4 percent rate on his career, including a 10 for 13 record from beyond 50 yards. Denver extended a franchise tender to Prater in lieu of a multi-year extension, but the veteran kicker has yet to sign the offer.

It's only organized team activities, but Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Stokley is certainly impressing head coach John Fox, reports the Denver Post:

"It's the Brandon Stokley I've seen on tape. He's healthy, and he's got a good skill set to play in this league, and he's proven that a lot of different places," coach John Fox said.

Obviously, it's one thing to move from working out with Peyton Manning to doing well in organized team activities and then from preseason games to the regular season, which we're still months away from, but Stokley will be a huge boon to Manning should he make the final 53-man roster.

That Stokley is playing the slot position for the moment would indicate that Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker will be on the outside and that we'll see more three-wide receiver sets. Manning will certainly like that.
