In what was a closely contested game throughout, the Oklahoma City Thunder used a late fourth quarter rally to force overtime against the Denver Nuggets and ultimately capture a 124-118 victory.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook both had enormous nights at the offensive end -- Durant scored 51 points on 16-28 shooting (unofficially), while Westbrook bounced back from a slow start to score 40. Serge Ibaka had a triple-double with 14 points, 15 boards and 11 blocks.

Despite those impressive efforts from Oklahoma City's stars, and despite the fact that Denver was shorthanded, the Nuggets were competitive all night and it looked like they would prevail when they had a two-possession lead in the final minute of the fourth quarter. But Durant and Westbrook were just too much on Sunday night.

A 6-0 run to start the third quarter by the Oklahoma City Thunder erased Denver's halftime lead, but they weren't able to expand much on the re-claimed lead, and Denver eventually rallied to tie the score at 83 at the end of the third quarter.

The Denver Nuggets have a 58-53 lead at halftime on the road against division-rival Oklahoma City, which is an encouraging development for a Nuggets team that has lost two games in a row.

Four players are in double figures for Denver, with Kosta Koufos and Arron Afflalo leading the way with 11 points apiece. Ty Lawson and Corey Brewer each have 10 points. Denver shot 52.1% from the field in the first half, though the Nuggets did not hit a three-pointer (0-6).

Oklahoma City shot just 42.9% despite Kevin Durant's 7-11 shooting effort. His 20 points are easily the game-high, and Russell Westbrook has 13.

Having lost seven of their last nine games, the Denver Nuggets know how important every victory is in the push for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference. However, a trip to Oklahoma City to face Kevin Durant and the Thunder is a difficult matchup when trying to put an end to a two-game losing streak. Despite playing its third game in the past five days, Denver holds a 27-25 lead over the Thunder after the first quarter.

The Nuggets closed out the quarter with a 10-0 run to take the lead. Aaron Afflalo was very productive in the opening 12 minutes, scoring a team-high nine points and dishing out two assists. Corey Brewer played with great energy and tempo, as he scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds. Andre Miller came off the bench to score two points and dish out three assists.

Kevin Durant delivered with his typical offensive efficiency, scoring a game-high 12 points on 4/5 shooting from the field. Russell Westbrook scored seven points and dished out three assists for the Thunder.

The Denver Nuggets' ever-changing starting lineup will see another shake up on Sunday, as Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post reports that George Karl will be starting Kenneth Faried at forward in favor of Al Harrington while returning center Timofey Mozgov to the starting lineup.

Faried, Denver's 2011 first-round pick, has already started four times for the Nuggets this season despite entering only 11 games while being limited with injuries. He put up career-best numbers in Denver's previous game against the Memphis Grizzlies, setting new career-high figures with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Harrington struggled against Memphis, scoring just four points while failing to make a single field goal.

Mozgov is returning to the starting lineup after coming off the bench against Memphis, his first game back after dealing with a sprained ankle. Kosta Koufos has started in Mozgov's absence, but he'll be returning to a bench role now that Mozgov is near full strength.

The Denver Nuggets enter Sunday's game vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder having lost seven of their last ten games, the latest of which was a heartbreaker against the Memphis Grizzlies that saw Denver fall on a last second tip-in after coming back from a 17 point halftime deficit. It will be the first time that the two teams have met since the Thunder vanquished the Nuggets in the first round of last year's playoffs, and it will find each team going in opposite directions, with the Thunder fighting for the Western Conference's top spot while the Nuggets hang onto playoff position for dear life.

The Nuggets have been ravished by injuries of late, and although Nene has been ruled out for Sunday's game, Denver may catch a small break. Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook is being called a game time decision after spraining his right ankle on Friday night in Oklahoma City's victory over the Golden State Warriors. If Westbrook, who has yet to miss a game in his NBA career, is forced to sit out, the point guard duties will fall on the shoulders of seldom used veteran Royal Ivey and rookie Reggie Jackson, which would be welcome news to Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson.

The Thunder may also be without starting center Kendrick Perkins, who missed Oklahoma City's last game with a right knee contusion. But the Thunder will definitely trot out MVP candidate Kevin Durant and James Harden, their electrifying sixth man, and that alone makes them terrifying enough.

Despite being dominated on the glass by the Memphis Grizzlies for most of the game, the Denver Nuggets were able to come all the way back from a 17 point halftime deficit to take a one point lead when Corey Brewer hit a jumper with 24 seconds left in the game. But Denver's inability to win the rebounding war would ultimately come back to bite them, as their comeback victory was snatched away when Memphis' Dante Cunningham tipped in a Rudy Gay miss with .2 seconds left on the clock.

The Nuggets were the superior team in both the third and fourth quarters, where they were led by Corey Brewer, who made five three pointers in third, hit the potential game-winning shot and finished with 26 points on 10-14 shooting. Denver also got a huge performance from back up PF Kenneth Faried, who chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds on 9-15 shooting but failed to block Cunningham out on the fatal tip.

For a Nuggets team that desperately needed a pick me up, tonight's game will likely be felt as a crushing defeat. They'll have a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday night when they continue their road trip vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder.
