After a strong performance during the opening drive, Willis McGahee fell quiet for the remainder of Thursday's game against the New York Jets. McGahee's hamstring wasn't an issue as he was able to drag players on a run for first down. But then he finished the game with 12 carries for 18 yards, not looking quite himself.

That was the risk in starting him. Even though he was able to start, McGahee still wasn't going to get all of the carries. Lance Ball and Spencer Larsen each had five carries, Eddie Royal had one run and Jeremiah Johnson, newly signed, wound up with negative yards on three plays. Tim Tebow picked up 68 yards on the ground, but most of that came on the final drive of the game, including a 20-yard touchdown run.

But this performance shouldn't persuade fantasy owners from sitting McGahee. He's been able to be a fantasy producer in both offenses the Broncos have run this season. His 163-yard performance against the Raiders always gives hope that he can be a game-changer.

Fantasy football players with Eric Decker on their squad have had to temper their expectations of what he can produce ever since Tim Tebow took over as quarterback. While Tebow has looked to Decker often, night's like Thursday show why it's risky to have a Broncos receiver on a fantasy team.

Tebow threw to Decker five times and the second-year wide receiver came up with zero catches. This ended his string of three straight games with a touchdown catch. As we well remember, Decker caught Tebow's final pass completion against the Kansas City Chiefs, a 56-yard touchdown grab.

Fantasy owners shouldn't be dropping him in droves, but he certainly isn't more than a third receiver or a flex starter. If Tebow starts to throw more, Decker will surely see a rise in his value again.

Denver Broncos running back Lance Ball didn't get the start on Thursday evening against the New York Jets, as Willis McGahee did start. But neither offered much of a fantasy impact. Ball had five carries for 18 yards as part of a poor rushing game by the Broncos. He did catch two passes for 26 yards, both second best among those who caught balls from Tim Tebow.

Ball had rushed for 96 yards on 30 carries last week against the Kansas City Chiefs once McGahee and Knowshon Moreno went down. Ball is in a decent, if risky, fantasy position as he will surely get carries each week given the run-heavy nature of the Broncos. With Knowshon Moreno out with a torn ACL, Ball will be the backup for the remainder of the season. He is worth holding onto for at least another week to monitor whether he really does get enough carries to stay on a fantasy roster.

Fantasy football owners will need to make a tough decision as game time approaches between the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets. Running back Willis McGahee is expected to start--unless, of course, he doesn't look right when he takes warmups. The Broncos beat writers weren't that optimistic before Thursday afternoon. They called him a game time decision and stated that warmups would determine if he goes. While the two positions are somewhat similar, the latest report is the far more optimistic of the two.

This could spell bad news for Lance Ball, who was in line for the start. Ball will still get some carries if McGahee starts, but don't expect him a repeat of his 30-carry, 96-yard performance last week. The Broncos run the ball a lot, but not that much. He'll be a decent flex option, but not much else with McGahee getting the lion's share of the carries.

In the end, if you have McGahee START him. He's the best running back on the team and has proven his fantasy worth even while injured (as seen with his broken hand).

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has received a slight upgrade from numberFire right before his Thursday night contest against the New York Jets. Originally he had been projected for five completions on 14 attempts for 95 yards. He has since been projected upward for (round the numbers) 12 completions on 25 attempts for 140 yards. He's projected for 0.80 touchdown passes and 0.60 interceptions, so let's move them up to one touchdown and one interception.

But Tebow's value, if he can't pass (a real possibility), is tied to his running ability. He's been projected for 50 yards and 0.46 rushing touchdowns. These numbers always appear conservative. It might be worth it project at least another 20 yards onto his rushing total and one touchdown.

Tebow is still a viable starter for fantasy football owners, but will he is also a risky play. He's that risk-reward player who will make or break teams each week.

Denver Broncos running back Lance Ball is certainly a hot pickup for fantasy football owners this week, especially those who have Willis McGahee. A hamstring injury appears ready to keep McGahee out of Thursday's game against the New York Jets, making Ball the go-to ball carrier. He had 30 carries for 96 yards in Sunday's game once McGahee went down and Knowshon Moreno tore his ACL.

NumberFire is a bit conservative with Ball's early projection, but it's sure to go up if McGahee is ruled out on Wednesday. Right now, Ball is projected for 8.68 points. He's projected for 12 carries and 51 yards--respectable numbers. However, he will be in line for more than that if he is the starter on Thursday night. Tim Tebow can't make 30 carries himself and Jeremiah Johnson is too inexperienced to overtake Ball right now.

As for Tebow, his passing numbers have been downgraded accordingly. He is projected for roughly five completions on 14 attempts with 95 yards. But he does get 51 rushing yards in this projection.

Denver Broncos running back Lance Ball is in a position to be a fantasy football factor since he moved into the backup position to Willis McGahee.

When the Denver Broncos lost both Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno early in the first quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Lance Ball had to step in, which he did in a big way. He had 30 carries for 96 yards in the Tim Tebow read-option offense.

As it stands on Tuesday morning, Ball is the backup to Willis McGahee. However, McGahee is battling a hamstring injury, which isn't expected to keep him out of the lineup. Still, Ball would be the first running back to take over for McGahee should the injury prevent him from taking the field.

Ball took over for Knowshon Moreno as the backup once a torn ACL ended his season. Jeremiah Johnson took Moreno's roster spot on Monday and will be third on the depth chart.

Smart fantasy owner might want to take a chance on Ball even if McGahee is ready to go on Thursday against the New York Jets because the team is preponderantly aiming toward a rush-first offense.
