Tim Tebow has been a lightning rod for opinion long before Sunday’s debacle against the Lions, but Tebow’s woeful second start has perhaps incited more criticism than the Florida product has ever faced before. The man who will ultimately decided Tebow’s future in Denver is John Elway. Elway appeared on 102.3 The Ticket to talk about the Broncos loss to Detroit and Tebow’s struggles.

If he thinks the Broncos coaching staff is struggling to adjust to Tebow’s game as much as he’s struggling to adjust to playing QB in the NFL:

"I think that there’s adjustments on both sides. Obviously when you have a quarterback of Tim’s skill set and age and youth, so I think they’re doing everything they can to put Tim in the best situation to be successful, as well as this offense. Obviously it hasn’t worked yet; we’ve struggled on offense the past two weeks. So we’ll continue to work at it and see what we can get done."

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox announced in a press conference today that the team will start Tim Tebow for at least one more game. The Denver Broncos (2-5) will travel to Oakland on Sunday to play against the Raiders, but earlier today, reports began to surface suggesting the Broncos might turn to former Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn if Tebow's performance doesn't improve dramatically.

Later, it began to appear likely the Broncos would give Tim Tebow at least one more game to fend off the former first round draft pick Quinn. Fox confirmed the reports at today's meeting with the press. Among his comments concerning the Tim Tebow, Fox said Tebow was "getting to understand the offense better with each [play]" and that Tebow "has had two starts this season and he's 1-1 ... there's no style points, bonus points or extra credit."

Tebow has only five career starts at this point in his career, compared to Quinn's 12, so it seems likely the Broncos want to see more of him before making a final decision. In his two starts this year, Tebow has averaged around 60 yards rushing, but less than 130 yards passing.

When John Fox addresses the media on Monday afternoon, Tim Tebow is expected to remain the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback, reports the Denver Post's Mike Klis. Early indications after Sunday's game were that Fox was undecided on his starter, but he has usually been tight-lipped about most things. And let's remember that Fox has never unequivocally stated that Tebow was the starter for the rest of the season.

Speculation that Brady Quinn might become the starter in a few games is certainly valid, but all we know for certain right now (at least we think it is) is that Tebow will be the team's starter when they visit the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Tebow made the first start of his career on Dec. 18, 2010, on the road against the Oakland Raiders. He was just 8-of-16 passing for 138 yards and a touchdown and had 78 rushing yards and a score in the loss.

Should John Fox decide to switch directions and bench Tim Tebow as quarterback, the Denver Broncos would likely turn to their third quarterback for the season instead of a return to Kyle Orton. According to a report by Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver, there is a belief that the Broncos will give Tebow a couple of more starts to turn things around before handing the reins to Brady Quinn, who was acquired from the Cleveland Browns in 2010.

Quinn has never been given his fair share while in Denver, not playing in a single game since he was acquired and most recently being deactivated for the last two games. But at this point, there would be nothing to lose by turning to Brady Quinn for the rest of the season, the Broncos appear to be thinking. Kyle Orton couldn't win and Tim Tebow couldn't win.

Obviously there's no guarantee that Quinn would be able to win with this team, but returning to Orton would be a regression. No matter who winds up as quarterback, the Broncos would then look to the draft for the future signal caller of the team.

Until John Fox announces his starting quarterback, this speculation could run rampant.

With John Fox declining to comment on whether Tim Tebow is going to be the Denver Broncos starting quarterback for Week 9's game against the Oakland Raiders, there is a legitimate question to be asked: did Tebow ever really have an 11-game trial period as the starter?

The Denver Post's Mark Kiszla speculates that Tebow might be halfway through his possible tenure as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. According to Pro Football Talk's Evan Silva, Kiszla believer Tebow has just four or five games to prove himself before another change at quarterback is made. And the reason for that would be a result of Elway not being the one who drafted him. Tebow was and will always be the embodiment of the Josh McDaniels era.

But this idea that neither Elway nor Fox are beholden to Tebow as the starter is not new. And we already know that Elway wants a pocket passer, since that is his No. 1 key to building a winning team. Tebow is not a pocket passer and likely never will be. Might as well give Brady Quinn a shot at being the starting quarterback.

Despite playing a mediocre game overall, once Tim Tebow led the Denver Broncos to a thrilling comeback victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, it was all but set in stone that he would start for the Broncos in Week 8 vs. the Detroit Lions. But after a 45-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday, which included a disastrous game from Tebow, Broncos head coach John Fox, in a comment to CBS Denver, declined to commit to a starting quarterback for Denver's Week 9 tilt vs. the Oakland Raiders.

It has been rumored that neither Fox nor de facto general manager John Elway believe that Tebow is a viable starting quarterback in the NFL, but after Kyle Orton started off this season playing like, well, Kyle Orton, Denver's brass had no choice but to turn to Tebow. But with Tebow completing well under 50% of his passes, and the Broncos offense floundering, it appears as if Fox and Elway already believe that they've done their due diligence. If the Broncos do in fact return to Orton in Week 9, it will be reasonable to start questioning if the Tim Tebow era in Denver is already finished.
