The Colorado Rockies are a frustrating team to follow in 2011. They can drop two straight games to the worst team in the league, the Houston Astros, and then win two in a row against the same team. That's what happened over the weekend for the Rockies. After Saturday's 13-inning victory, the Rockies broke out the bats on Sunday for a 19-3 victory.

The 19 runs were a season high and the 25 hits were a new franchise record.

Kevin Kouzmanoff and Chris Iannetta paced the offense with five RBI each, Kouzmanoff (3) hit two home runs, both two-run home runs. Iannetta (14) hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Kevin Millwood, the starting pitcher, hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth. Thomas Field had a career day with four hits and three RBI.

Millwood (4-3, 3.98 ERA) allowed a run on a Jose Altuve single to center field in the third inning. Other than that, it was smooth sailing for the veteran. He went seven innings and allowed that one run on three hits. He struck out six. Greg Reynolds pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rockies (72-87, 34-44 away) travel to San Francisco for a three-game series that ends the regular season.

The Colorado Rockies ended their nine-game losing streak on Saturday night with a 13-inning 4-2 victory over the Houston Astros. Now the Rockies need to build on that with a second victory over the Astros. They will need to do so with Kevin Millwood on the mound.

Kevin Millwood (3-3, 4.56 ERA) was absolutely pounded by the San Diego Padres in his last start. He left with two outs to go in the fourth inning after allowing seven runs on nine hits. He saw the Padres hit two two-run home runs in that fourth inning. Millwood is 4-1 with a 3.20 ERA in six starts at Minute Maid Park, but his last start came in 2008 (when he allowed seven runs in five innings).

Lucas Harrell (0-1, 2.00 ERA) was claimed off waivers by the Astros in July after the pitcher spent parts of 2010 and 2011 with the White Sox. He made his Astros debut on Sept. 2, throwing 5-1/3 innings of shutout balls. However, he has been used a reliever in three appearances since then.

First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. MT.

The Colorado Rockies avoided losing their 10th straight game this season with a 4-2 victory in 13 innings against the Houston Astros. The Rockies won it in a fashion only they could pull off.

Thomas Field, playing in right field as a result of Ty Wigginton being ejected in the 1tth inning for arguing balls and strikes, led off the top of the 13th with a walk and advanced to third on an Eric Young Jr bunt single and Houston throwing error. Young moved over to second on catcher's indifference and saw Dexter Fowler reach on an intentional walk.

Chris Nelson drew a bases loaded walk to put the Rockies up, 3-2, and Wilin Rosario hit a sac fly for the insurance run. Jordan Pacheco ended the inning with a fly out, but Rafael Betancourt came in for the bottom of the inning and struck out two for his seventh save of the season.

Jason Hammel pitched well enough to leave lasting consideration for a rotation battle in the spring. He allowed two runs in seven innings, a sacrifice fly in the first inning and a Brett Wallace home run in the second inning. Astros starter J.A. Happ allowed two runs in seven innings as well. Pacheco hit a two-run double off him in the fourth inning.

The Rockies (71-87, 33-44 away) conclude this series on Sunday at 12:05 p.m. MT. Kevin Millwood and Lucas Harrell take the mound.

Even with a less talented roster due to injuries, the Colorado Rockies are struggling mightily against the major's worst team, the Houston Astros. They've already dropped the first two games of a four-game series, Friday's an 11-2 loss. On Saturday, the Rockies will look to avoid a 10-game losing streak.

Jason Hammel (7-13, 4.85 ERA) is making his final start of the season after moving to the bullpen at the end of August. His first relief appearance out of the bullpen once that move was made came against the Astros in Colorado. He did throw two scoreless innings, which helped the Rockies to a victory. The Rockies could look to trade him this offseason, but they will likely give him a shot at the rotation again.

J.A. Happ (6-15, 5.48 ERA) is 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA in three September starts, a tie with August for his best month of the season. In his last start, Happ allowed two runs on three hits in six innings and struck out nine. All in all, it's been a perfectly forgettable for Happ.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. MT.

The Colorado Rockies just don't have any steam left in them. Following Friday night's 11-2 loss to the Houston Astros, the Rockies are now on a nine-game losing streak. They have five games remaining on schedule.

For rookie pitcher Drew Pomeranz (1-1, 5.68 ERA), his first road start was memorable in all the wrong ways. After two solid starts at Coors Field, Pomeranz came out in Houston and allowed six runs in the first inning. The first inning was a disaster, as five runs scored before the first out was recorded. Carlos Lee delivered the big blow on a two-run double to center field, but Angel Sanchez and Michael Downs each drove in a run on a double that inning. Chris Johnson added the fifth run in a single.

J.D. Martinez's RBI double in the second inning was the last run Pomeranz gave up since Esmil Rogers relieved him in the third inning. Rogers allowed two in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, the latter an inherited run score with Jim Miller on the mound. Carlos Lee drove in two of those runs to reach four on the night.

The Rockies briefly held the lead in the first inning when Eric Young Jr. reached on an infield single and then scored on a Dexter Fowler double. Chris Nelson homered in the seventh inning.

The Rockies (70-87, 32-44 away) have Jason Hammel on the mound for Saturday's game.

Injuries should never be an excuse for losing, but they certainly are what lead to poor play. The Colorado Rockies are no stranger to injuries this season, and the current eight-game losing has been impacted by the latest set of them. Todd Helton and Carlos Gonzalez are unlikely to play in any of the six remaining games, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

Helton's back has bothered him all season, but an MRI revealed nothing that would indicate surgery is necessary. He still has two years left on his contract and wants to finish the deal out, but he might no longer be fit to be an "everyday" first baseman. The Rockies have had Jordan Pacheco play first base this season, though he played second base last night and has played the hot corner.

Gonzalez has had a recurring wrist injury since July, when he first injured it diving into the outfield wall. He had his wisdom teeth removed on Thursday, which kept him from traveling to Houston with the team. He will be there on Friday.

At this point, it makes little sense to play either. The Rockies have nothing to gain and could see further injury if the two play.

The Colorado Rockies haven't been able to catch a break lately, dropping eight straight games. The latest was an 8-6 loss to the Houston Astros on the road on Thursday night. Rookie Alex White didn't allow any home runs in the game, but he still gave up his requisite five runs.

Drew Pomeranz (1-0, 1.69 ERA) will make just his third career start. After throwing five shutout innings in his debut, Pomeranz made it through 5-2/3 innings against the Giants. He allowed two runs, but Huston Street and Matt Lindstrom combined to allow four runs in the eighth inning. This will be his first road start.

Brett Myers (6-13, 4.39 ERA) faces the Rockies for the second time this season. On Aug. 22, the Rockies knocked Myers around for seven runs in five innings. Since then, Myers has pitched in five games and won the last three. And except for his last start when he allowed two runs, the other four saw him allow just one run. One of those five appearances was a two-inning relief performance. He pitched at least seven innings in those four starts.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MT.

Even a game against the lowly Houston Astros couldn't save the Colorado Rockies from defeat. The Rockies dropped their eighth straight game with a 9-6 loss on Thursday night. Rookie Alex White (2-3, 8.63 ERA) had another troubling start. While he reached his career-high of six strikeouts for the third time this season, White failed to complete five innings, allowing five runs with one out to go in the fifth. On the bright side? White didn't allow a home run.

Former Rockie Clint Barmes delivered the first blow to Alex White when he doubled in a run in the second inning. Not to be outdone, Carlos Lee had the bases loaded in the third inning and cleared them with a double to deep center field. Lee's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning chased White out of the game. Matt Reynolds allowed a three-run double in the seventh, though all the runs were charged to Jose Roenicke.

Kevin Kouzmanoff hit his first home run as a Rockie when he sent one over the left field wall in the seventh inning. Wilin Rosario closed the gap to 8-6 when he hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning, but Mark Melancon struck out two on the way to his 20th save.

The Rockies (70-86, 32-43) continue on Tuesday with Drew Pomeranz and Brett Myers dueling at 6:05 p.m. MT.
