Has Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver Paul Richardson emerged as one of the Pac-12's top wide receivers? Saturday's performance of 11 receptions for 284 yards and two touchdown receptions certainly should put him on the map as a receiver coaches will need to think about covering.

For that performance, Richardson has been named the Pac-12 offensive player of the week. Among the players Richardson beat out for the weekly award were California QB Zach Maynard (4 TD), Stanford QB Andrew Luck (4 TD), Washington State's Marshall Lobbestael (5 TD, 361 passing yards) and Oregon's Darron Thomas (6 TD).

As Jon Woods mentions over at the Ralphie Report:

It only took two weeks of play as a new member of the conference for a Colorado player to win the honor, a feat that shouldn't be overlooked.

While his competitors put up big numbers against their respective opponents, none of those games was as close as California against Colorado. The Buffs took the game to overtime, but lost, 36-33.

The Colorado Buffaloes couldn't quite escape with the victory over the California Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon at Folsom Field. The Buffs tied the game at 30 with 30 seconds left in the game, sending things to overtime. The Buffs started overtime with the ball and saw Rodney Stewart bring them to the Cal four-yard line following rushes of nine and 12 yards. Stewart was denied on the next two rushes and Tyler Hansen was unable to find Paul Richardson in the end zone. Will Oliver kicked the field goal for the temporary 33-30 lead.

Cal was burned by two penalties (five- and 10-yards) in their drive, but on 1st-and-30, Zach Maynard found Keenan Allen for a 32-yard gain and the first down. Maynard and Allen found each other a couple plays later for a five-yard touchdown and the 36-30 victory.

This was a tough game for both teams and beset by numerous penalties and questionable calls by the officials. The Buffs had 13 penalties for 103 yards, Cal five for 50 yards.

Buffs quarterback Tyler Hansen and wide receiver Paul Richardson each had career days. Hansen passed for 474 yards and three touchdowns on 28-of-49 passing. Richardson tallied a school record 284 receiving yards on 11 receptions. He also caught two touchdowns, the first for 66 yards and the second for 78 yards.

Cal plays Presbyterian Blue Hose next weekend. The 0-2 Buffs have their annual showdown with the 2-0 Colorado St. Rams at Folsom Field, where Colorado wants to avoid falling to 0-2 on the season.

The Colorado Buffaloes host the Cal Bears to finish out a home-and-home series that began in 2010. The Buffs will want to make up for the 52-7 loss on the road last season.

The California Golden Bears and the Colorado Buffaloes are both members of the Pac-12, but Saturday's game at Folsom Field will count as a non-conference game since it was scheduled before the Buffs made the jump to the new conference. This will complete a home-and-home series that began in 2010.

That 2010 game was an embarrassing road loss for the Buffs. Colorado was shutout in the first half of the game, 31-0, before Tyler Hansen ran the ball into the end zone in the third quarter. Kevin Riley threw for four touchdowns against the Buffs' secondary while Tyler Hansen threw three balls to the Bears' secondary. The Bears walked away with a 52-7 victory.

This time around, the Buffs will face Zach Maynard at quarterback, who led the Bears to a 36-21 victory over Fresno State. Maynard threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 53 yards on the ground.

Tyler Hansen, meanwhile, had over 200 yards passing and threw for two touchdowns, but his defense was unable to stop Hawaii's Bryant Moniz on the ground, as he found the end zone three times. The Buffs would also do well to get Rodney Stewart motoring. He picked up just 59 yards on the ground, averaging less than three yards per carry.
