The Broncos lost Syd'Quan Thompson for the season after he tore his right Achilles tendon in Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Denver Broncos saw three players go down tih injury during Thursday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Wide receiver Britt Davis was hammered by former Bronco Hamza Abdullah and left the game. Linebacker Nate Irving hurt his chest. But none was more devastating than the one to defensive back Syd'Quan Thompson, who tore his right Achilles tendon. He will be out for the season, reports Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post.

Thompson was a seventh-round draft pick out of Cal in 2010. He went on to play in 13 games for the Broncos as a rookie last year. His two interceptions were tied for the team-lead with Champ Bailey and Renaldo Hill, which shows how non-aggressive the team was in coverage last season.

Thompson's season-ending injury almost assuredly guarantees a roster spot for Perrish Cox, even with his status up in the air due to his trial for alleged sexual assault.

Tim Tebow did for the Denver Broncos what Brady Quinn was unable to do during his time in the game: put points on the board. Shutout for until the final three minutes of the game, Tebow directed the Broncos to a touchdown on a six-play, 94-yard drive. On his second consecutive pass to Eron Riley, Tebow hit his receiver for a 43-yard touchdown pass and six points. Matt Prater added the extra point, bringing the game to its final 26-7 score.

That drive by Tebow took up nearly half of the team's total yards, which stood at 200 at that moment. A poor first half by Brady Quinn (4-of-12, 26 yards, 1 INT) stalled the offense. Adam Weber did come in during the final minute of the game and was promptly sacked. He made up for it with a pass to Eron Riley that went for 89 yards. Weber attempted to scramble for a touchdown on the last play of the game, but he fell short of the goal line as time expired.

Ronald Bartel (12-of-16, 216 yards, 2 TD) and Brodie Croyle (10-of-16, 104 yards) exploited a porous Broncos secondary composed of second- and third-teamers. William Powell pounded away on the ground, needing 29 carries to come up with 60 yards.

The Broncos finish the preseason with a 2-2 record and open the season on Monday, Sept. 12 against the Oakland Raiders in Denver.

The Denver Broncos haven't looked much different in the second half of their preseason finale with the Arizona Cardinals. The Broncos are still being shut out by the Cards, 23-0. Broncos kicker Matt Prater had a chance to put the team on board at the end of the third quarter with a 60-yard field goal. Prater had enough leg on the kick, but the ball started out right of the goal post and continued to stay wide.

The Cards added three more point with a 52-yard field goal. The Cards running game looked better this half, though William Powell has plugged away on 20 carries to pick up 44 yards.

Tim Tebow went under center for the Broncos at the start of the second half. He went 2-of-4 for 22 yards and rushed once for eight yards. Tebow has had issues examining the field, leading him to look for other non-throwing opportunities. He did wind up being sacked during the quarter.

If the first half has taught anything to the Denver Broncos, it's that there is a significant talent gap between the first team and the second team. The Broncos are down at halftime to the Arizona Cardinals, 20-0. Plus, injuries have become an issue for the Broncos. Syd'Quan Thompson, Nate Irving and Britt Davis all left the game due to injury.

Brady Quinn has not looked sharp, He's made several bad throws, has had one pass intercepted and several others had a chance to wind up in the defender's hands. He went 4-of-12 for 26 yards.

The Cardinals offense clicked throughout the first quarter. Richard Bartel threw two touchdowns passes, a 19-yard one and a 48-yarder. Darcel McBath did pick him off on a nice play, but the Broncos couldn't capitalize on it. The rush defense has been solid, but tackling by the linebackers and pass coverage by the secondary has been lacking at times. Receiver Chansi Stuckey has 99 yards on four receptions.

Tim Tebow should play for the Broncos in the second half while Adam Weber has a chance to finally see some action later in the fourth quarter. Maybe the bad football will end in the second half.

The Arizona Cardinals wasted no time scoring again against the Denver Broncos, who are now down, 14-0. The Broncos picked up a first down on a Brady Quinn-to-Matthew Willis 13-yard reception on first down, but after a second pass to Willis and two runs by Lance Ball the Broncos were forced to punt again.

Six plays into Arizona ensuing drive, Richard Bartel found a wide open Chansi Stuckey crossing the middle of the field. He took it to the end zone, exploiting the complete collapse of the pass defense on the play. Jay Feely kicked his second extra point to make the score 14-0.

Broncos cornerback Syd'Quan Thompson went down on the plat. He walked off the field with the help of team trainers but eventually left on a cart.

As expected, Denver Broncos head coach John Fox chose to sit his starters and had the second-stringers start the game against the Arizona Cardinals. There has been something lacking in the game, as Brady Quinn was just 1-of-3 for negative-three yards on his first two drives. He did have a pass to Britt Davis that could have been good, but Davis dropped the ball.

The Cardinals took a 7-0 lead when quarterback Richard Bartel relieved Kevin Kolb on the second Arizona drive. Bartel came up with a third-down throw to Chansi Stuckey that wound up going for a 28-yard gain. Then Bartel fired off a pass to Larod Stephens-Howling, which resulted in a 19-yard touchdown. The Broncos' linebackers showed some poor tackling ability on that scoring play.

On defense for the Broncos, defensive tackle Ryan McBean has pressured the quarterback often. Defensive end Derrick Harvey started and needs a good game.

The Denver Broncos will have five players not in uniform for Thursday night's game with the Arizona Cardinals. None of them should be a surprise. Linebacker D.J. Williams is out due to a dislocated elbow; defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley took a shot to the knee in Saturday's game with the Seahawks; defensive tackle Marcus Thomas has missed the previous two preseason games with a strained pectoral muscle; wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is still recovering from his Achilles injury and won't play until the end of October; and defensive tackle Ty Warren has a torn triceps that will keep him out for most of the season.

For the Cardinals, quarterback John Skelton is out due to a high right ankle sprain. Safety Adrian Wilson is still making his way back from a torn biceps muscle. Cornerback Michael Adams had arthroscopic knee surgery back in early August. Wide receiver DeMarco Sampson is also out.

While Denver Broncos quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn are likely to appear on the first regular season depth chart as co-No. 2 quarterbacks behind Kyle Orton, the question for Thursday's game against the Arizona Cardinals is which one will start the game.

Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post believes head coach John Fox will sit Kyle Orton for this final preseason game and most if his starters, something he did previously in Carolina. If that happens Brady Quinn is likely to start the game, but that doesn't mean he'll play much either. Tebow still needs experience on the playing field, and he'd get that by playing at least half of the game.

Undrafted rookie free agent signing Adam Weber will also benefit from this game since he will see his first game action on Thursday night. He doesn't have much of a chance to make the roster because there's no reason for the Broncos to carry four quarterbacks. However, he would be a good candidate for the practice squad and a long-term development project.
