Colorado Rockies starter Esmil Rogers likely wishes he had a mulligan to use on his first inning on Wednesday night. Rogers allowed a three-run home run to Miguel Montero in the first inning, just enough offense that would have been enough had the team not scored another run to make the final score 4-2.

Rogers (6-4, 5.94 ERA) didn't have much trouble throughout the rest of his six-inning outing. He only allowed one more run on a Sean Burroughs single in the sixth inning. Rogers has allowed 20 runs and five home runs in the first inning of games this season.

Josh Collmenter (9-8, 3.18 ERA) held the Rockies in check for six innings, surrendering just two runs on five hits. Eliezer Alfonzo singled in Seth Smith during the second inning, but he ended any further scoring when he was thrown out at second base to end the inning.

Dexter Fowler hit his second home run of the season one night after hitting his first of the season. That came in the third inning. The Rockies had two men on with two outs in the seventh inning, but Jason Giambi, pinch-hitting for Esmil Rogers, grounded out to end the inning. A similar situation arose in the eighth inning, but Todd Helton flied out to center to end the inning.

Troy Tulowitzki entered as a pinch-hitter with Jonathan Herrera on first base and two men out. Tulowitzki struck out to end the game. The Diamondbacks now have a 12-game home win streak, a franchise record, and a nine-game overall win streak.

The Rockies (64-73, 29-40 away) dropped all three games in this series and five of their last six games. After an off day on Thursday, the Rockies will be in San Diego for a weekend series with the Padres.

The Colorado Rockies have one game left in Arizona this season and on Wednesday they will look to make it a victory. The Diamondbacks have taken the first two games of the series, as neither Alex White nor Aaron Cook had been able to stop the opposing offense. The Rockies are out to end eight-game win streak and 11-game home win streak.

Esmil Rogers (6-3, 5.93 ERA) hasn't won a game since August 9, and the Rockies are just 1-2 in his three starts since then. He's given up four runs in each of those starts, though the one the Rockies won was a 7-6, 13-inning affair. This will be his first start of the year against the Diamondbacks.

Josh Collmenter (8-8, 3.19 ERA) is no surprise to the Rockies, unlike Wade Miley yesterday. Also a rookie, Collmenter has made two starts and one relief appearance against the Rockies in 2011. He threw two shutout innings of relief against the Rockies in May and then made his first start against them in Coors. That start resulted in his first professional loss by allowing five runs, but for the Rockies the loss of Jorge De La Rosa to a torn UCL in that game was far worse. Collmenter pitched seven innings of three-run ball against the Rockies in Arizona on July 23. The D'Backs won that game, 12-3.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. MT.

The Arizona Diamondbacks struck early and then often on Tuesday night to defeat the Colorado Rockies, 9-4. The heart of the Diamondbacks' order led the offense combined to drive in all of their runs.

The Rockies actually jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Todd Helton RBI single in the first, but that didn't last long. Aaron Cook (3-8, 5.82 ERA) saw Dexter Fowler turn a Gerardo Parra single into a two-run triple in the third inning and the Justin Upton followed with an RBI ground out.

Chris Iannetta showed a more aggressive approach at the plate and drove in a run during the fourth inning, one of his three hits. Yet, the Diamondbacks answered right back with a three-run home run by Miguel Montero in the fifth inning. The D'Backs led 6-2 at that point. Aaron Hill's infield single an inning later added another run.

A Kevin Kouzmanoff RBI single in the eighth inning and a Dexter Fowler home run (1) in the ninth brought the Rockies' run total to four. In between that, though, Justin Upton hit a two-run home run for the Snakes' eighth and ninth runs.

D'Backs rookie Wade Miley (2-1, 3.94 ERA) allowed just two runs over six innings before handing things over to his bullpen.

The Rockies (64-72, 29-39 away) close out the series with Esmil Rogers on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. MT.

The Colorado Rockies had a brief respite from losing on Sunday, but when they went to the desert on Monday for a series with the Diamondbacks, things just didn't start off well. Alex White struggled in his second start for the Rockies and the offense was shutout for eight innings, seven by starter Daniel Hudson. The one run they managed in the 5-1 loss came on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.

Aaron Cook (3-7, 5.47) has made one previous start against the Diamondbacks this season. That game came in Arizona and it was his first win of the season. On July 22, Cook allowed four runs on a two-run home run, a triple and a single. Exiting after six innings, Cook was still the pitcher of record when the Rockies scored two run in the top of the seventh to take the lead. He struggled in his last outing, a six-run, 11-hit performance against the Houston Astros. The Rockies won that game, 7-6, on a wild pitch in the 10th inning.

Arizona rookie Wade Miley (1-1, 4.50 ERA) makes just his third start in the big leagues. The lefty rookie was blasted for five runs against the Atlanta Braves in his first start, but then he rebounded with six scoreless innings against the Washington Nationals. This will be his first start at home. His fastball averages around 92 so far and he uses a slider, a curveball and a changeup to round out his repertoire.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. MT.

Monday's game between the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks was all about silence. The Diamondbacks sent the Rockies to a 5-1 loss to start the series, the Rockies' only run coming in the ninth inning.

Rockies starter Alex White, celebrating his 23rd birthday, had a shaky first inning. However, he held the Diamondbacks to just one run, a Ryan Roberts leadoff home run. He followed with three walks, but a throw out at second base, a pop out and a strikeout broke up the walks and resulted in no further damage.

It was the sixth inning that really put the game out of reach for the Rockies. White gave up four singles and a double, which scored four runs for the Diamondbacks. White's final line was six innings pitched, five runs allowed and six walks issued. Jason Hammel and Huston Street kept the D'Backs off the board for the final two innings.

Diamondbacks starter Daniel Hudson tamed the Rockies for seven innings. He held the Rockies to three hits while striking out eight and walking three. Bryan Shaw, Joe Paterson and J.J. Putz finished the game for the Diamondbacks, but they had a dicey time of it. Putz hit a batter with the bases loaded before following with a strikeout of Jason Giambi and a pop out by Dexter Fowler.

The Rockies (64-71, 29-38 away) turn to Aaron Cook on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:40 p.m. MT.

They'll have Alex White on the mound for his second start as a Rockies. August 29 is also his 23rd birthday. Can he pick up a win for his birthday gift?

White (0-0, 7.50) looked sharp early on, had some laughable defense behind him and then left after the sixth inning with five runs allowed. And this was to the Houston Astros. The Rockies offense kept them in the game and won, 8-6, but White took the no-decision in his first start.

Daniel Hudson (13-9, 3.75 ERA) has lost both his starts against the Rockies this season. He is 0-2 with a 5.84 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. In Arizona on July 22, Hudson allowed five runs in 6-1/3 innings, striking out seven in the loss. In August, Hudson is 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA. He just threw 8-2/3 innings of two-run ball against the Washington Nationals.

The Diamondbacks enter this series on a six-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep of the Padres. They had dropped six straight games before that, but they still hold a four-game lead over the Giants for the National League West lead.
