The Denver Broncos have signed offensive lineman Tony Hills, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post. The Broncos and Hills have reportedly agreed to a two-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Herb Taylor was waived to make this move possible.

Hills, a former Texas Longhorn, was the Steelers' fourth-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, but he didn't see any action in the league until last season. He will serve in the backup role that Taylor had occupied before his release. Taylor was listed as the second-string right tackle, behind rookie Orlando Franklin.

Even after the Saturday deadline to reach the 53-man roster, head coach John Fox continues to add pieces, hoping to create the right mix of players to face the Raiders on Monday.

The Denver Broncos created their eight-player practice squad on Sunday by returning players they cut on Saturday. The Denver Post reports that those players are:

WR Eron Riley
WR D'Andre Goodwin
OT Adam Grant
RB Jeremiah Johnson
FB Austin Sylvester
S Kyle McCarthy
DE Jeremy Beal
QB Adam Weber

Weber's agent announced the signing a couple of hours earlier on Twitter. Riley was impressive in the preseason finale with the Arizona Cardinals, torching their secondary for over 100 receiving yards and a 43-yard touchdown reception from Weber.

Kyle McCarthy was a bit of a surprise cut, but he remains with the Broncos. Darcel McBath, who beat him out for a spot on Saturday, was waived on Sunday to add Jonathan Wilhite.

Jeremy Beal was the Broncos' draft pick in 2007 and the only one not to make the active roster.

The Denver Broncos added former New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Wilhite to the roster on Sunday, reports the Denver Post. Wilhite is entering his fourth year in the NFL, having primarily played as a reserve for the Patriots. As fourth-round pick, WIlhite started four games as a rookie for New England and intercepted one pass. He doubled that total in 2009 and started eight games.

He's played the nickelback role, as the Denver Post points out, which could allow the team to shift Champ Bailey out of that role. We'll see how that goes soon enough.

The Denver Broncos confirmed this moved and announced the corresponding roster move. Safety Darcel McBath, who beat out Kyle McCarthy for a roster spot on Saturday, was waived. McBath was a Josh McDaniels second-round draft pick in 2009

The Denver Broncos cut undrafted rookie free agent Adam Weber on Saturday to reach the 53-man roster limit, but he won't be going very far. Weber's agent, Marc Lillibridge, tweeted on Sunday afternoon that Weber signed on with the Broncos' practice squad.

Weber was undrafted out of Minnesota, where he was teammates with current Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker. Weber was never a real challenger to make the final 53-man roster, despite comments from an anonymous source who believed Weber could overtake Tim Tebow on the depth chart at the end of camp.

Weber didn't play in any preseason game before the final one with the Arizona Cardinals. He did lead the Broncos to their only touchdown, a 43-yard strike to Eron Riley late in the fourth quarter, but for this season he will develop on the practice squad. Developing Weber is a good move by the Broncos, as Tim Tebow is the only quarterback currently signed to a contract for the 2012 season.

Even though Saturday was the day for teams to reach the 53-man roster limit, that doesn't necessarily mean that teams have reached their final roster for their season-opening games next weekend. With plenty of players released or put on waivers, team's will still make more adjustments over the week.

The Carolina Panthers waived defensive end Everette Brown on Sunday afternoon, according to Adam Caplan. Brown was a second-round draft pick of the Panthers' in 2009, back when current Denver Broncos head coach John Fox held the reins over there. Fox has had interest in bringing his former Carolina players to Denver, and it would be no surprise if he wanted to bring in Brown. The Broncos have waiver priority in this matter since they are the No. 2 team behind No. 1 Carolina.

Even with Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers playing the end positions, the Broncos could use as much talent as they can get (Jason Hunter and Derrick Harvey are the backups). Brown has six sacks in 28 career games.

Despite a strong preseason finale performance of three receptions for a touchdown and 144 yards, Eron Riley found himself looking for a new team on Saturday. The Denver Broncos cut Riley and Britt Davis, leaving the team with five wide receivers.

Surprisingly, 2010 first-round selection Demaryius Thomas is on the active roster as one of five receivers. He tore his Achilles tendon back in February and was on the non-football injury list. He was expected to receive the six-week determination period to see if he could play or if he would go on injured reserve.

He is ahead of schedule, but is likely not ready to play in the season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 12. General manager Brian Xanders said that he will practice with the scout team at first.

Here is how the depth chart looks at receiver right now:

WR1: Brandon Lloyd, Matthew Willis, Demaryius Thomas
WR2: Eddie Royal, Eric Decker

In a surprising move, the Denver Broncos cut defensive lineman Jeremy Jarmon on Saturday afternoon to reach the 53-man roster limits. Jarmon came to the Broncos in an early trade with the Washington Redskins for wide receiver Jabar Gaffney. Jarmon started out as a defensive end, but had to move inside and become a tackle once injuries hit the position.

During cut day's press conference, general manager Brian Xanders called Jarmon's departure a "tough cut" and that moving between the positions likely hurt his development.

The Broncos still need another defensive tackle or two on the roster and there are sure to be a few that will interest the team. Tommie Harris was cut by the Indianapolis Colts and is a former first-round pick. Knee injuries have taken away his speed skills at the line. The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly released Derek Landri, a player the Broncos were interested in at the start of free agency.
