Denver, CO (Sports Network) – Carlos Gonzalez, Chris Iannetta and the Colorado Rockies gave Ricky Nolasco the worst beating of his career en route to a 12-5 blowout of the Florida Marlins.

The Rockies pounded Nolasco (9-9) for 11 runs on 11 hits, highlighted by Gonzalez and Iannetta each knocking in four runs, the former capping the barrage with a three-run homer in the third.

Aaron Cook (3-7) was overshadowed by the offensive showcase with 7 2/3 quality innings, allowing three runs on nine hits. The Rockies have won three of five overall.

Jose Lopez spoiled a shutout bid with a leadoff homer in the eighth, and Mike Stanton added a two-run shot later in the inning to end Cook’s night.

The outcome, for all intents and purposes, was already decided by that point though, as Colorado jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three turns at the plate.

Nolasco entered Wednesday’s rubber match on the heels of a four-start stretch in which he went 3-1 and allowed just six runs.

He gave up nearly that many in the first inning alone.

Gonzalez started the onslaught by taking a 3-0 fastball to center field for an RBI single, then scoring on Chris Nelson’s infield hit. The bases were left loaded for Iannetta, who cleared the bags thanks to Mike Cameron misplaying his line drive to straightaway center.

The only positive to come out of Nolasco’s start came in the second when he fanned Mark Ellis to tie Dontrelle Willis’ club mark of 757 strikeouts.

The bright spot quickly became an afterthought after he surrendered six runs in the third. Iannetta, Cook and Mark Ellis each singled in runs, and Gonzalez golfed his 20th home run of the season over the right-field wall.

Eric Young Jr. plated Dexter Fowler in the eighth for the Rockies’ final run, and DeWayne Wise and Lopez each knocked in a run in the ninth to account for the final margin.

Colorado has an off day before starting a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jason Giambi almost proved to be a hero for a second night in a row on Tuesday when he hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth. But the Rockies were still down one run after that blast and lost, 6-5. On Wednesday night, the Colorado Rockies can still capture a series victory against the Florida Marlins.

The Rockies will contend with Ricky Nolasco (9-8, 3.72 ERA), who missed out on the April series between the two teams. Since July 20, the day he allowed nine runs in one-plus innings, Nolasco has made it through at least five innings in his last four starts and allowed no more than two runs each time. He's coming off two solid outings in which he pitched a combined 15 innings and allowed just three earned runs. In his career against the Rockies, he is 5-0 with a 2.27 ERA in six career starts. He has 43 strikeouts in nearly 40 innings.

Aaron Cook (2-7, 5.43 ERA), as usual, is looking to rebound from a bad start. Ever since he threw seven shutout innings, Cook has had trouble in his other outings. He did have a start against the Washington Nationals in which he allowed just two runs in 6-2/3 innings, but the Rockies wound up losing that one, 3-2. In his last start, Cook surrendered six runs in 5-2/3 innings to the Cardinals. This last month and a half is going to be Cook's swan song with the Rockies.

Game time is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. MT.

It wasn't quite as impressive as his last start against the Colorado Rockies, but Anibal Sanchez tamed the Rockies for another game, defeating the Rockies, 6-5, on Tuesday night. But Leo Nunez almost blew the game again the bottom of the ninth inning. Todd Helton led off the inning with a single and was left there after Seth Smith and Eliezer Alfonso both flied out to the outfield. Jason Giambi entered as a pinch-hitter for Chris Iannetta and unloaded a home run to right field for the second night in a row.

Ty Wigginton stepped to the plate and added a single to keep the game alive. Eric Young Jr. replaced Wigginton at first base to put speed on the base paths. However, Dexter Fowler popped out to the shortstop to end the game.

Sanchez (7-6, 3.97 ERA) had allowed three runs in eight innings, all the runs coming on solo home runs. Troy Tulowitzki (25) hit one in the second inning and then saw Seth Smith (13) hit one two at-bats later. Carlos Gonzalez added his 19th homer of the season in the fourth inning.

Jhoulys Chacin (9-10, 3.59 ERA) didn't have it at the start of the game. After a ground out by Emilio Bonifacio to start the game, Bryan Petersen tripled to deep left field. Mike Stanton worked a walk off of Chacin to put to men on base. Greg Dobs followed with an RBI single to center field. Stanton moved to third and Dobbs wound up on second following a bobble by Fowler on the play. Mike Cameron's single drove in Stanton and Dobbs for the early 3-0 lead.

Chacin left after the fourth inning, which saw him give up two more runs. One of the runs scored on Petersen's second triple of the night. Edgmer Escalona came in for the next three innings and allowed a solo homer to Mike Stanton (28) in the seventh inning.

The Rockies were hurt at the top of the order, as Dexter Fowler and Mark Ellis combined for an 0-for-9, six-strikeout performance.

On Monday, it took a Jason Giambi home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Colorado Rockies their third walk-off win of the season, but a 7-4 win is still a win. Fans at Tuesday's game will see a pitching matchup between two young starters, Anibal Sanchez and Jhoulys Chacin.

The last time the Rockies saw Anibal Sanchez (6-6, 4.00 ERA) was on April 22. It was one of those early season games where the Rockies would be confounded and on the wrong end of a potential no-hitter. Dexter Fowler broke up the no-hitter in the top of the ninth with a single to right field, but Jonathan Herrera hit into a fly out and Fowler was doubled off at first base.

Amazingly, the Rockies scored in the 4-1 loss that game. In the first inning, Fowler had started things with a walk and then moved to second on a passed ball. Herrera's ground out moved Fowler over to third base, which allowed him to score on a missed catch by Gaby Sanchez.

In his last start, Anibal Sanchez got beaten up by the Braves, allowing five runs in almost two full innings of work. But in his start before that, he held the Cardinals to three runs in seven-plus innings.

Jhoulys Chacin (9-9, 3.39 ERA) happened to be the losing pitcher in that April 22 contest in Miami. He allowed all four runs in that contest. This time around, Chacin is coming off a gem against the Cincinnati Reds. He threw an eight-inning complete game loss in the 2-1 decision. He struck out eight in the contest, but two RBI singles in the first inning were enough to do him in.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. MT.

It has been a depressing season for Colorado Rockies fans, as the trademark Coors Field Magic hasn’t been apparent.

Jason Giambi provided a glimpse of that magic, with the first walkoff home run of the season for Colorado, a three run shot that flew into the right field stands and completed a four run, ninth inning comeback victory for the Rockies over the Florida Marlins.

Kevin Millwood provided another solid, if unspectacular, start for Colorado. He went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, with all four runs scoring on two run home runs by Mike Stanton and John Buck. Millwood has now allowed seven runs on five home runs in his two starts with Colorado.

Troy Tulowitzki stayed hot, hitting his 24th home run of the season in the third inning. Dexter Fowler continued his torrid pace in the second half of the season, hitting a triple and starting the game winning rally with an odd double in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With two outs, Fowler hit a bloop that landed in shallow center field. Fowler made a break for second base before hesitating and getting caught in a rundown. Marlins first baseman Gaby Sanchez slipped and Fowler made it into second without any difficulty. Carlos Gonzalez plated Fowler with a line drive double of his own down the right field line, and Troy Tulowitzki was intentionally walked.

Giambi provided the final fireworks, completing the rally and giving Colorado a dramatic victory to start their homestand.

The series continues as Jhoulys Chacin takes the mound against Anibal Sanchez. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 pm MDT.

The Colorado Rockies begin their homestand with a three game series against the Florida Marlins

The Colorado Rockies return home after a disappointing 3-4 road trip that saw them lose any hope of playoff contention this season, falling 12.5 games back of the division-leading Arizona Diamondbacks. They begin the homestand against their expansion partners from 1993, the Florida Marlins.

Florida enters this series with the same number of wins as Colorado (56) but are in last place in the NL East, 22.5 games behind the blistering Philadelphia Phillies. Like Colorado, several of Florida's young stars have also disappointed this season. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez is having a miserable year, hitting .243 with only 10 homeruns on the year. Young ace Josh Johnson has only started nine games this season due to injury, a concerning trend for the 27 year old pitcher who has already recovered from Tommy John surgery.

The Marlins will send out 31 year old RHP Clay Hensley to the mound for the series opener. Hensley has switched between reliever and starter this season, but has only pitched 40 innings. He has a 1-2 record with a 5.04 ERA as a starting pitcher.

Colorado will counter with journeyman Kevin Millwood, who will be making his second start in a Colorado uniform. The free agent signed with Colorado last week and pitched well in his debut against the Cincinnati Reds, allowing three runs (all on solo homeruns) in seven solid innings, striking out six.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm MDT.
