In what has become an all-too-common experience, the Colorado Rockies were on the wrong end of a potential no-hitter in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Florida Marlins. Dexter Fowler broke up the no-hitter in the top of the sixth with a double, just as did on Friday night in the ninth against Anibal Sanchez. That's when it appeared the Rockies had started their comeback.

Down 3-0 in the sixth inning, Fowler scored on a Jonathan Herrera double. Then in the eighth inning, Ty Wigginton walked and Dexter Fowler put down a bunt, putting runners on first and second. A passed ball allowed them to move up a base. A Carlos Gonzalez sac fly and a Troy Tulowitzki double to left center field tied the game at three. But Seth Smith struck out to end the inning.

In the eighth inning, Matt Belisle (2-1) entered with one out and allowed a single and walk. Mike Stanton came to the plate and blasted a home run to left field, putting the Marlins up, 6-3. The Marlins had just three hits in the game.

Both the Marlins' Josh Johnson and the Rockies' Ubaldo Jimenez pitched well for the first five innings and four innings, respectively. Johnson allowed one run in seven innings and struck out six. Jimenez didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. He had walked three batters in that inning and then gave up a three-run triple to Omar Infante for the first hit of the game. That was the end of his day, striking out seven and allowing three runs.

The Rockies (14-7) head to Chicago on Monday to start a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs. Esmil Rogers will throw against Matt Garza.

The Colorado Rockies and the Florida Marlins were locked in a 0-0 tie through four-plus innings of ball due to the outstanding performances of Ubaldo Jimenez and Josh Johnson. Neither hitter had allowed a hit yet through 4.5 innings.

That is, until Jimenez ran into trouble in the top of the fifth when he walked the first two batters he faced. On a pickoff throw to second base and no outs, Jimenez threw to the wrong side of second base, out of reach of Troy Tulowitzki, to advance the runners. He then walked the next batter to load the bases. However, he got Josh Johnson to strike out swinging and Chris Coghlan to fly out to left field. And then Omar Infante hit a triple to right center field to clear the loaded bases for the first hit of the game. Hanley Ramirez popped out to end the inning

Josh Johnson has walked two and struck out five so far as the Marlins lead, 3-0.

Making his third start of the season, Ubaldo Jimenez looks to capture a series victory for the Colorado Rockies over the Florida Marlins on Sunday afternoon. However, it will be a tough game as the Marlins will have their ace, Josh Johnson, taking the mound.

In his first start of the disabled list, Jimenez allowed four runs in the first innings (three on a Pablo Sandoval homer), but then held them scoreless through the next four innings. He left after five innings and struck out six batters. When we consistently see him reach the mid- to upper-90s again, Jimenez will be back to his old self.

Meanwhile, Josh Johnson is already angling for the NL Cy Young. He is 3-0 in four starts with a 1.00 ERA and a 0.59 WHIP. He's stranding runners at a 75.3 rate and is inducing ground balls in play 57.4 percent of the time. They'll need to watch out for his 94 mph fastball, a mid-80s slider and an upper-80s changeup. In four career games against the Rockies, Johnson has a 1.14 ERA and 28 strikeouts.

First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 a.m. MT, which can be seen on ROOT Sports.

After being on the wrong end of superb pitching performances in the last few games, the Colorado Rockies received a strong start from Jason Hammel (2-1) in their 3-1 victory over the Florida Marlins on Saturday night. Hammel was mixing up his fastball and slider to keep the Marlins off all night. He allowed a Chris Coghlan sac fly to center in the third for the Marlins' only run of the game. He finished his night with 6 2/3 innings pitched and four strikeouts.

After Troy Tulowitzki singled in Dexter Fowler in the top of the first inning, the Rockies' bats went silent until the sixth inning. Back-to-back doubles by Todd Helton and Seth Smith put men on second and third for Ty Wigginton, who hit a sacrifice fly to right field to put the Rockies in the lead, 2-1. After Jose Morales was intentionally walked, Hammel helped his own cause when he put down a sac bunt along the first base line, scoring Seth Smith.

Javier Vazquez struggled for the Marlins through six innings. He wasn't locating his pitches well and walked five to go with his five strikeouts. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez went 0-for-4 to continue his early struggles. But the Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez is also in a funk right now. In four plate appearances he walked and went 0-for-3. He hit into a double play in the seventh inning.

Helton's double was the 532nd of his career, putting him two behind Lou Gehrig for 31st all-time. Huston Street pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his seventh save of the season.

The Rockies (14-6) and the Marlins conclude this series on Sunday afternoon at 11:10 p.m. MT. Ubaldo Jimenez will face Josh Johnson in a duel of the aces.

Twice in the last four games an opposing pitcher has no-hit the Colorado Rockies for at least seven innings, and the Marlins' Anibal Sanchez had his chance all the way to the start of the ninth on Friday night. Were it not for a leadoff single by Dexter Fowler may well have been on his way to his second career no-hitter.

As it stands, Fowler did single, but the Rockies still lost, 4-1. The Rockies are 1-3 in their last four games, but will look to correct that with Jason Hammel on the mound. Hammel is 0-2 in three games (two starts) in Florida with a 6.75 ERA, for what it's worth. In his last start, Hammel took a loss to the Cubs because he left the game when the Rockies were down, 3-1, but in the seventh Felipe Paulino allowed five runs. The Rockies scored two more in the eighth, but Hammel still took the loss.

The Marlins counter with Javier Vazquez, who has bounced around the majors since 2004, the year he moved from Montreal to New York (AL). After pitching just 2.1 innings in his April 3 start against the Mets (7 R, 5 BB), Vazquez has made it through at least the fifth in his two starts, but he did walk four in his last start.

The Rockies' announced lineup is:

Morales starts in place of Chris Iannetta, who has hit a rough patch after a hot start. He is hitless in his last three starts (0-for-8). Ty Wigginton will now start to receive time at third base with Ian Stewart in the minors again.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. MT.

The Florida Marlins' Anibal Sanchez almost threw his second career no-hitter on Friday night, but Colorado Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler came through with a single to start the top of the ninth, breaking up the no-hitter. But instead of threatening in the ninth, Jonathan Herrera flied out to left field and then Dexter Fowler was doubled off first base. Carlos Gonzalez ended the game with a ground out to first. Sanchez finished with a one-hitter and nine strikeouts.

Sanchez's toughest inning came in the first. He started the game with a leadoff walk to Dexter Fowler and then was charged with a run when Gaby Sanchez failed to make the catch on a Troy Tulowitzki ground out. Fowler reached base in three of his four plate appearances (2 BB, 1 H), while Tulowitzki on the error and Helton on a walk in the seventh were the other base runners.

Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin allowed leadoff home runs in the first and third innings to Chris Coghlan and Gaby Sanchez in the first and third innings, respectively. In the second inning, Anibal Sanchez had a sac fly and Coghlan drove another run in on a ground out. He left after five innings.

The Rockies' reliever trio of Matt Belisle, Felipe Paulino and Franklin Morales held the Marlins off the board for the final three innings of the game.

The Rockies (13-6) resume this series on Saturday night at 5:10 p.m. MT. Jason Hammel will throw against Javier Vazquez.

It's been almost five years since Anibal Sanchez threw a no-hitter for the Florida Marlins (9/6/06), and on Friday night he is already seven innings through another one. He and the Marlins currently lead the Rockies, 4-1. The Rockies scored that one run on an error in the first inning. Dexter Fowler started the inning a moved to second on a passed ball and then to third base on a ground out. Then it appeared Troy Tulowitzki ground out to end the inning, but Gaby Sanchez committed an error to allow Fowler to score.

Sanchez has struck out through seven innings, but things weren't ask kind for Jhoulys Chacin. On the second pitch he threw in the game, Chacin allowed a leadoff home run to Chris Coghlan. Then in the second inning, Anibal Sanchez's sac fly and Coghlan's fielder's choice added two more runs. And then to start the third, Chain gave up another lead off home, this time to Gaby Sanchez.

Earlier in the week, Tim Lincecum took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Rockies, but Carlos Gonzalez broke it up. Unfortunately, Gonzalez ground out in the seventh this time.
