McCoy worked with John Fox from 2002-2008 while part of the Carolina Panthers organization. He served a variety of roles, spending most of his seasons there as the quarterbacks coach. He served that role with the Broncos in 2009 before Josh McDaniels brought in his brother, Ben, in 2010.

McCoy worked well with rookie quarterback Tim Tebow over the last three games of the season, and given Tebow's progression over those games, keeping McCoy in the OC role should be beneficial.

The Denver Post's Jeff Legwold reports that former interim coach Eric Studesville is likely to be retained as the team's running backs coach, the position he held prior to taking over for Josh McDaniels. Jim Mora Jr. is a candidate for defensive coordinator.

The Denver Broncos held a conference at noon MT on Friday, Jan. 14 to announce John Fox as the team's new head coach. Owner Pat Bowlen, executive vice president of football operations John Elway and Fox, all dressed with orange ties, each took their turns at the podium, though Fox spent the most time there.

John Elway began the presser by announcing John Fox as the 14th head coach in Broncos history. He thanked all the others candidates (Rick Dennison, Perry Fewell, Dirk Koetter and Eric Studesville), but noted that Fox was the coach who seemed the best fit. He said that nothing negative came back from coaches, players or other front offices on Fox, which greatly helped his chances.

Elway then gave way to Bowlen, who kept his remarks even shorter than Elway's. Bowlen said, "I think he [Fox] can come in here and turn this organization around." Bowlen then gave way to Fox.

Fox quickly announced that he was "proud to stand here in front of" Broncos Country and ready to rebuild the team. He was excited to bring back the fans and the winning ways to the Broncos' organization.

The first question Fox discussed was Champ Bailey's status. He said it was too early to discuss that, given the precarious nature of the league's labor situation. Fox said that he had yet to make any final determinations on whom his coaching staff will include. Also, he has yet to determine if the Broncos will use either a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive scheme. He stressed that it is more important to find balance on defense more than anything else. The offense is a head of the defense at this time, but balance will be able to help that out in the long-term.

While he did not give any notion that he has settled on Tim Tebow as the team's quarterback, Fox did praise the young quarterback, saying, "He'll do whatever it takes" to succeed in the NFL and that "[...] he's not afraid to be great." He also likes the groups of wide receiver and offensive lineman the Broncos have.

To close things out, Fox reiterated what John Elway has previously said, "As long as it's not going to affect the competitive aspects, I'm going to be as open & honest as possible."

The John Fox Era has begun.

With a press conference coming Friday at noon to announce John Fox as the newest Denver Broncos head coach, contract details have emerged this morning. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Fox's deal runs for four years and will pay him between $3 million and $3.5 million each season. This is in addition to the millions that the team still owes former coaches Mike Shanahan and Josh McDaniels. The Broncos recently reach a settlement with McDaniels, though details have not been released.

According to Forbes.com, Fox's compensation wouldn't even put him in the top 10 of coach contracts. The New England Patriots' Bill Belichick is the highest-compensated coach at $7.5 million. Mike Shanahan, now the Washington Redskins' head coach, received $7 million a year.

Given the uncertain state of a new collective bargaining agreement between the Players Association and the owners, who knows when we'll see John Fox on the Denver Broncos' sideline?

Fox was the coach of the Carolina Panthers from 2002 through 2010, and was recently fired after a 2-14 season. He was the head coach of the Panthers during their only championship appearance, a 32-29 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII. He also led the Panthers to the 2005 NFC Championship game, where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

Coach Fox brings decades of coaching experience with expertise on the defensive side of the ball, long a weakness of the Denver Broncos. He is also known for his quick rebuilding jobs, with the Carolina Panthers quickly turning around their fortunes twice in the nine years he was head coach.

The job ahead would be difficult for any head coach, but armed with the #2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and past experience, Coach Fox has a good place to begin rebuilding the Denver Broncos through his own methods.

No contract details have emerged yet, but the Denver Broncos will be paying three head coaches simultaneously; Mike Shanahan and Josh McDaniels are still owed money after their terminations.

John Fox will officially be announced as the new Denver Broncos head coach at a team press conference scheduled for Friday, January 14 at 12:00 p.m. MST.

Fewell's Giants were seventh in total yards allowed (4,972), having the ninth-best passing defense (209.5 yards/game) and eighth-best rushing defense (101.3). His defense had 46 sacks in 2010, while the Broncos' struggled to reach 20 (the team finished with 23).

But the coordinator who won the award? The Atlanta Falcons' Mike Mularkey, who canceled his interview with the Broncos last week to concentrate on his team's upcoming playoff game.
As of now, it appears unlikely that Mularkey will receive an interview with the Broncos. Former Panthers coach John Fox is currently interviewing with the team and could be considered the front-runner for the position.

Fox has coached the Panthers since 2002 and led the team to Super Bowl XXXVIII (though they lost to the New England Patriots, 32-29). He has a 73-71 record in nine seasons. He has a defensive background, serving as the New York Giants' defensive coordinator (1997-2001) before coaching the Panthers.

The Broncos have received permission to speak with and have scheduled an interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive coordinator, Dirk Koetter. Koetter has been the team's offensive coordinator since 2007 and has had offenses in the middle of the pack. Before joining the Jaguars, he had been the head coach at Boise State (1998-2000) and then at Arizona State (2001-2006), having winning records with both teams.

Rick Dennison will also receive an interview with the Broncos, who included him in their previous head coaching search before settling on Josh McDaniels in 2009. For Houston, Dennison became Gary Kubiak's offensive coordinator in 2009 after spending 2006-2008 at the same position with the Broncos. Dennison's NFL playing career (1982-1990) was spent with the Broncos.
