<p>West Point, NY (Sports Network) – Tim Jefferson threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns while running for another pair of scores to lead the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/teams/air-force-falcons">Air Force Falcons</a> to a 42-22 victory over the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/teams/army-black-knights">Army Black Knights</a> in a non-conference tussle at Michie Stadium.</p>
<p>The win gives the Falcons their first Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy since 2002 and their 17th in school history.</p>
<p>Nathan Walker added 109 yards on the ground with a touchdown in the win for Air Force (6-4), while <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/48289/asher-clark">Asher Clark</a> ran for 89 yards. Jefferson gained 57 yards on just 11 totes for the Falcons, while <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/48291/jonathan-warzeka">Jonathan Warzeka</a>’s two receptions were good for 116 yards and two scores.</p>
<p><a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/76070/jared-hassin">Jared Hassin</a> ran for 114 yards for lead Army (5-4) in the losing effort, while <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/76041/trent-steelman">Trent Steelman</a> added 60 yards on the ground as well. Steelman also completed 6-of-12 passes for 81 yards with a touchdown and an interception as well for the Black Knights.</p>
<p><a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/35339/alex-carlton">Alex Carlton</a> connected on field goals from 30 and 41 yards, respectively, during the first quarter to give the Black Knights a 6-0 lead.</p>
<p>Jefferson got the Falcons on the board for the first time of the afternoon following a three-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, while a 53- yard toss from Jefferson to Warzeka just minutes later gave the Falcons a 14-6 lead.</p>
<p>Army cut the Falcons lead to 14-13 midway through the stanza with an 18-yard scoring scamper from <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/35372/jacob-bohn">Jacob Bohn</a>, but the Falcons found the end zone again with under a minute remaining in the half with a two-yard Walker plunge to take a 21-13 lead into the break.</p>
<p>The Black Knights added a 46-yard Carlton field goal late in the third quarter, while the Falcons padded its advantage late in the stanza with a 63- yard strike from Jefferson to Warzeka.</p>
<p>A 52-yard fumble recovery by <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/76835/jordan-waiwaiole">Jordan Waiwaiole</a> early in the final period of play extended the Falcons lead to 35-16.</p>
<p>Steelman hooked up with <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/35349/austin-barr">Austin Barr</a> for a nine-yard score midway through the frame, but a two-point conversion attempt failed to leave the Black Knights trailing by a 35-22 deficit.</p>
<p>The Falcons added a one-yard Jefferson plunge just minutes later to close out the scoring and account for the final score of the contest.</p>

<p>With Air Force scoring two straight touchdowns, Army needed to respond and they did by sustaining a 60 yard drive that ended on a 13 yard touchdown run by <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/35372/jacob-bohn">Jacob Bohn</a>.</p>

<p>Air Force scores another quick touchdown by Tim Jefferson throwing the ball this time. Jefferson connected on a 53 yard pass to Erik Soderberg to put the Falcons up 14-6. It looks like the Falcons have woken up from the early start time.</p>

<p>The first drive for Air Force netted in a three and out with minus one yards, but then on the second drive the Air Force offense came alive. They had a drive of 11 plays, 67 yards and took over five minutes; a classic Air Force drive. The drive was all on the ground and the touchdown was scored by quarterback Tim Jefferson scoring on a third-and-goal from the three on a quarterback keeper.</p>

<p>Army take the early lead over rival Air Force by kicking two field goals to open up a 6-0. The two Black Knight field goals came from 31 yards and 40 yards. Also, Air Force has been shut down offensively so far with minus one yards when Army kicked the second field goal.</p>

<p>With a win over the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/teams/navy-midshipmen">Navy Midshipmen</a>, the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/teams/air-force-falcons">Air Force Falcons</a> can take the Commander-In-Chief Trophy on Saturday with a victory over the Army Black Nights. Despite losing their last three games, the Falcons did that against three <span class="caps">BCS</span>-ranked teams. Given all that, <a target="_blank" href="http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/31694/page/thursday-predictions/non-aq-picks-week-10-2"><span class="caps">ESPN</span>.com’s Andrea Adelson</a> is still taking the Air Force Academy over Army:</p>
<blockquote>
<p><b>Air Force 28, Army 21.</b> The Falcons have hit a bit of a rough stretch, losing three straight. All three were to bowl-eligible teams, including No. 3 <span class="caps">TCU</span> and No. 5 Utah. Army is putting together its best season since 1996, but the Falcons have the edge in this game because their triple option offense is better. They gave Utah all it could handle last week, but had five turnovers. If Air Force wins, it gets the Commander-In-Chief Trophy for the first time since 2002.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>The Falcons would also move closer to becoming bowl eligible once the regular season ends. But at the moment, the Commander-In-Chief Trophy will be all that Air Force aims to achieve this weekend.</p>
<p>Soar high, Falcons!</p>

The Falcons have dominated the Black Knights in the all-time series, posting a 30-13-1 ledger against their rival. Air Force has won the last four meetings, and 12 of the past 13 showdowns.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">The Falcons soared out of the gates this season with five wins in their first six games, including a 35-14 decision over 24th ranked BYU. However, over the past three weeks Air Force has come down to earth, losing three consecutive games, including a heartbreaking, 28-23 setback to seventh ranked Utah.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">This past weekend the Black Knights dominated VMI to the tune of 29-7. It was the second home win on the year for Army, which also beat North Texas at Michie Stadium. In the team's two home setbacks this season, Army only lost by a combine 10 points to Hawaii and Temple.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Falcons might fly, but these Falcons stay grounded and use their ground game to abuse their competition. Air Force, which is averaging 29.1 ppg, has dominated its opponents for an outstanding 313.6 ypg and out of the 35 touchdowns scored by this unit, 27 have come via the run. <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/48289/asher-clark">Asher Clark</a> is currently leading the team with 735 yards on 5.8 yards per attempt, while quarterback Tim Jefferson has contributed 570 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns. Clearly the Flacons do not pass much, which means Jefferson is rarely called upon to air out the football, which is for the best, because when under center the signal caller has completed just 50.4 percent of his throws. In nine games the quarterback has thrown just seven touchdowns against six interceptions.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">The Falcons managed 210 rushing yards this past weekend against Utah, but still suffered a tough loss, despite scoring 13 fourth quarter points. Jefferson led the team on the ground with 67 yards and one touchdown, while Clark was held in check, totaling just 53 yards on 11 totes. As for Jefferson, he also threw for 201 yards and one touchdown, but was also intercepted twice.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">The success of the offense has been the downfall of the defense, as the Falcons are being gashed for 205.4 ypg on 5.0 yards per attempt. Out of the 26 touchdowns allowed by this unit, 19 have come via the run. Coach Troy Calhoun's defense has also lacked big play ability, forcing just 13 turnovers, while collecting only 11 sacks.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Air Force's troubles against the run continued this past weekend against Utah, as the Utes punished the Falcons for 179 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Because the defense was unable to stop Utah from moving the ball on the ground, the Falcons suffered close to a 13-minute disadvantage in time of possession. The Falcons also allowed the Utes to convert all three of their red zone chances and 8-of-17 third down attempts.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">The offense for Army is practically identical to Air Force's approach, as the Black Knights head into this meaningful contest averaging 281.4 ypg. Army, which is producing 30.4 ppg, has scored 26 of its 30 touchdowns via the run. <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/76070/jared-hassin">Jared Hassin</a> is currently leading the team with 669 rushing yards, and has also scored eight touchdowns, while quarterback <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/76041/trent-steelman">Trent Steelman</a> has rumbled for 499 yards and a team-best nine scores.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">The last time Army was in action the team punished VMI for 316 yards and two rushing touchdowns. One of those scores was claimed by Hassin, who rumbled for 158 yards on just 14 carries. <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/players/11188/patrick-mealy">Patrick Mealy</a> added 97 rushing yards, while Steelman contributed 42 yards to go along with one touchdown. Because Army relies heavily on its ground game it is very rare that Steelman has to throw the football. In the win over VMI the quarterback threw for just 64 yards and has just 568 yards and four scores on the season.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Helping the cause for coach Rich Ellerson's team has been the success of the defense, which is holding the opposition to just 309.9 total ypg. Army, which is allowing a pedestrian 21.9 ppg, has done an outstanding job against the run, holding teams to just 117.8 ypg on 3.9 yards per attempt.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">In the team's recent win over VMI the Black Knights held their competition to just 282 total yards. However, the front line surprisingly had some issues against VMI's ground game, allowing 123 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries. Army only forced one turnover in the matchup, giving this defense 18 takeaways on the year, but did manage to limit VMI to a meager 3-of-14 showing on third down attempts.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">These two schools are identical offensively, so look for both teams to rush the ball 90 percent of the time. Army has a better defense, and is also home, which is another advantage, but the Falcons have too many playmakers and a much better passing attack, giving them a slight edge in this contest.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; outline-width: 0px; outline-style: initial; outline-color: initial; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; padding: 0px; border: 0px initial initial;">Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Air Force 27, Army 24</p>
