Troy Renck tweeted Troy Tulowitzki’s probable rehabilitation schedule earlier today.

The Rockies’ All Star shortstop will play two rehab starts for the AA Tulsa Drillers July 24-25, with a return to the Rockies’ lineup tentatively scheduled for July 28, barring any setbacks.

Tulowitzki has been on the Disabled List for the past month with a broken hamate bone, but the Rockies have found success with Clint Barmes as a temporary replacement. Regardless of the team’s recent success, having the clubhouse leader back in action will be a major boon to their second half chances.

Andrew Martin of Purple Row reacts to the Tulo injury:

So far this season, Tulo has posted a .306/.375/.502 line with 9HR, 34RBI. Tulo’s .386 wOBA was 3rd best on the team, and his 2.3 WAR ranked 2nd.

Word is that Clint Barmes will slide to SS. I’d like to see Nelson take some reps there as well.

With a less than adequate replacement at shortstop in Barmes and the unproven Herrera and Nelson platooning at second, the Rockies will need to avoid a June and July swoon. If not, the playoffs will be out of reach.

Both Tracy Ringolsby and Troy Renck report that troy Tulowitzki suffered a broken hamate bone in Thursday's game when he was hit by an Alex Burnett pitch. He is expected to be out for a month, possibly two.

This is a major blow to the Rockies, as Tulowitzki was one of the few bright spots for the Rockies offense this season. Clint Barmes will move over to shortstop, while a trio of Jonathan Herrera, Melvin Mora, and just-brought-up Chris Nelson will platoon at second base.
