2012 Arizona Fall League: Rockies prospects begin play on Tuesday

The 2012 Arizona Fall League season begins on Tuesday and will mark the 20th anniversary of the autumn circuit. The major league teams send some of their top prospects to Arizona each October, and in 2011 Colorado Rockies prospect third baseman Nolan Arenado won the league MVP award. While Arenado isn't back there this year, here are the Rockies' prospects who will be playing for the Salt River Rafters:

Pitchers: Tyler Chatwood, Isaiah Froneberger, Cory Riordan, Coty Woods

Catchers: Lars Davis, Jose Gonzalez

Outfielders: Corey Dickerson, Kent Matthes

Corey Dickerson takes the place of Kyle Parker, who injured his thumb at the end of the minor league season. Dickerson split time between Hi-A Modesto and Double-A Tulsa this season, hitting .304/.358/.542 with 22 home runs and 81 RBI. Thirteen of his 22 homers came while laying for Tulsa.

Tyler Chatwood was another late addition to the roster, as the Rockies want him to build up his innings total this fall. He started in 12 of his 19 appearances and finished the season with a 5.43 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP.

The Rafters take on the Mesa Solar Sox on Tuesday.
