Rockies prospect Kent Matthes got the offense started with a solo home run in the second inning, helping his Salt River Rafters to a 9-2 win over the Phoenix Desert Dogs in Arizona Fall League play on Monday afternoon.
Matthes' solo blast gave the Rafters a 1-0 lead, and he finished his day going 2-4 from the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. The performance moved his fall-league average to .319. Matthes hit .214 in 94 games with Colorado's double-A affiliate in Tulsa last season.
Catcher Lars Davis did his part in building the nine-run total as well, going 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Those RBIs came when Davis smacked a two-out double to left field to give Salt River a 3-0 lead. Davis also spent the 2012 regular season at double-A Tulsa, hitting .287 and 43 RBIs.
Pitching prospect Coty Woods didn't fare as well. Woods pitched the ninth inning, surrendering three hits and the only two Phoenix runs of the day.
The Rafters are now 10-7 in the fall league, and feature several Rockies prospects. Salt River next plays against the Surprise Saguaros on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. MT.
