The 2012 Arizona Fall League kicked off on Tuesday and the Salt River Rafters -- home to the Colorado Rockies prospects -- picked up a 6-5 win over the Mesa Solar Sox.

Down 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Rafters started things with a Trayce Thompson walk. Rockies outfielder Kent Matthes doubled in Thompson to tie the game. After Lars Davis, a catching prospect for the Rockies, put down a sac bunt to move Matthes to third base, Diamondbacks shortstop Chris Owings smoked a triple to score him for the go-ahead run.

Arizona pitcher Eric Smith pitched the top of the ninth and notched a save following a 1-2-3 inning.

Matthes finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBI. The homer came in the sixth inning and tied the game at four. Outfielder Corey Dickerson, who replaced Kyle Parker, picked up a double over his four plate appearances while Davis went hitless in three at-bats.

Cory Riordan picked up the win for the Rafters, pitching the eighth inning. A couple of singles and a throwing error on a pickoff attempt led Riordan to allowing a run and the temporary deficit. Tyler Chatwood started and pitched four innings. Javier Baez hit a second-inning homer off him and Nick Castellanos drove in the other run on a third-inning single. He struck out six.

The Rafters are on the road Wednesday when they face the Solar Sox again. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. MDT.
