Ty Lawson leaves CAA, according to report

The Denver Nuggets point guard has departed CAA, joining LeBron James as another high profile NBA player to leave the agency.

Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson has Creative Arts Agency, according to Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal. Lawson has 15 days until he is allowed to sign with a new agent.

Lawson would not be the first high profile NBA player to depart CAA, with LeBron James leaving the agency earlier in September. James signed with a new sports agent headed by Rich Paul, a former agent with CAA and a childhood friend of James.

Lawson is currently seeking an extension from the Nuggets after a career year in 2011-12. Lawson finished the season averaging 16.4 points, 6.6 assists and 34.8 minutes per game as he became one of the premier guards in the NBA.

Drafted out of North Carolina, Lawson is in entering his fourth season with the Nuggets. He became the starting point guard in Denver in February 2011, when Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups were traded to the New York Knicks, and has a nearly 50 percent field goal average for his career.
