2012 NBA standings: Nuggets in early season battle for last playoff spots in the West

A schedule heavy with road games has the Nuggets in an unfamiliar position.

US PRESSWIRE

The Denver Nuggets are currently 8-9 as they have started season surprisingly slow and are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Part of the struggle could be attributed to 12 of their first 17 games being on the road as they are 4-8 in road tilts and 4-1 at home. If they can even out the road record, they should be fine due to their ability to hold down the fort at home.

The Nuggets' record puts them in third-place in the Northwest Division behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz. The Nuggets are currently the eighth seed in an increasingly tight Western Conference. The Nuggets are fighting off the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets as all three teams are 5 1/2 games back of the conference-leading Memphis Grizzlies.

The Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers are tied atop the Pacific Division. The Grizzles lead the Southwest. In the Eastern Conference, the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks are tied atop the Atlantic Division while the Indiana Pacers lead the Central. The Miami Heat are tops in the Southeast and in the conference.

The Grizzlies have the best record in the league at 12-2.
