The Denver Nuggets defeated the Houston Rockets 93-87 on Wednesday night to run their record in the early-going to 2-3.
While it might be silly to look at what this does for playoff positioning barely over a week into the season, it's never a bad thing to give a loss to a conference foe, and 2-3 looks much better than 1-4. Still, Denver finds itself looking up at the surprisingly 3-1 Minnesota Timberwolves, who sit in first place in the Northwest Division. Denver is also half a game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers while being tied at 2-3 with the Utah Jazz, whom they host Friday night.
As far as the conference standings go, right now a sub-.500 record wouldn't be good enough to crack the 8-team playoff field. But there are still well over 70 games to go -- plenty of time for a new-look roster to climb the charts.
