The hottest team in the NBA was taken down on Monday night, as the Denver Nuggets snapped their three-game losing streak with a 97-92 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in Tennessee.
The game stayed close, with none of the quarters until the fourth having a point disparity between the teams of more than four points. That led to a very tense fourth quarter where the two teams traded baskets back and forth right up until the end, with the decisive basket being a three-point shot by Danilo Gallinari after two crucial turnovers by Memphis.
In addition to putting the final nail in the coffin, Gallo was the team leader all evening, with 26 points and two of the five three-point shots that the team made. Another solid evening on the glass helped the Nuggets out as well, as the team outrebounded the Grizzlies 47 to 33 on the back of a monster 13-rebound game by Kenneth Faried.
Rudy Gay led the Grizz with 22 points but also had four turnovers, mistakes that helped the Nuggets eke out the win in the end.
The Nuggets will get a day off before facing the banged-up Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
