While the leading rusher for Toledo, David Fluellen, went down with an injury in the first half and was carted to the locker room, the Rockets held the pace in the second quarter and trail 10-6 at halftime.

The only score for the Rockets in the quarter came when Jeremiah Detmer made his second 37-yard field goal of the game after an eight-play, 50-yard drive for the Toledo stalled in Utah State territory. With Fluellen out of the game, Toledo turned to quarterback Austin Dantin for offense as he accumulated 74 yards passing in the quarter.

However, it wasn't enough to make up the 7-3 deficit that came after Chuckie Keeton had a break-away run early in the game to give Utah State an early lead. The Aggies' quarterback struggled to get offense going in the second quarter, though, before a 40-yard pass in the final seconds of the half set up a 27-yard field goal for Nick Diaz extended the lead to four.

Keeton finished the first half with 128 yards passing and 90 yards rushing.
