After a slow start for the Utah State offense, the No. 22 Aggies erased an early deficit and took a 7-3 lead over the Toledo Rockets with a 62-yard touchdown run by quarterback Chuckie Keeton in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

It was the Rockets that got out to a quick start in the game with a 36-yard pass from Terrance Owens to Bernard Reedy to get deep into Utah State territory on the first play from scrimmage. However, those were the only passing yards gained by the team in the entire first quarter and Toledo was forced to settle for a 37-yard field goal from Jeremiah Detmer to take an early 3-0 lead.

While the Aggies had an unsuccessful first drive, Keeton ran for a long score on the second drive for the team and was in the midst of a long drive into Toledo territory at the conclusion of the first quarter.
