The Denver Pioneers men's hockey team split its weekend series with the No. 2 ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers, winning 2-0 Friday night and losing 5-1 the following day. After recording a shutout against one of the best teams in the nation, the Pioneers couldn't figure out how to slow down their opponent Saturday evening.
Denver entered the third period tied 1-1, but Minnesota went on a scoring frenzy late in the game, putting three goals on the scoreboard before Zach Budish landed an empty-net goal to make matters worse. Juho Olkinuora blanked the Golden Gophers in Game 1, recording 33 saves for his No. 10 ranked squad.
Colorado College also split its weekend series, defeating Minnesota State 4-1 Friday and losing 7-2 Saturday. Minnesota State currently sits at No. 9 in the national ranking.
Air Force pulled off a two-game sweep over Niagara. The Falcons outscored the Purple Eagles 11-3 to improve to 17-11-7 overall with the two wins.
