The Denver Pioneers went in opposite directions in the two main NCAA lacrosse polls after a 15-8 of the Hobart Statesmen at home. The win gave the Pioneers a 6-3 record on the season as they are in the midst of a three-game home streak. Against Hobart, senior Mark Matthews led the Pioneers with four goals and five points, giving him his 25th career hat trick. Freshman Wes Berg continued an impressive rookie campaign with three goals and four points.
In the Nike Media Poll Denver fell one spot for the second straight week to No. 11 due to North Carolina jumping up on the strength of their win over former No.1 Johns Hopkins. In the USILA Coaches Poll the Pioneers moved up a spot to No. 9 by shooting past Maryland.
Denver Vs. Hobart: Pioneers Defeat Statesmen, 15-8
The biggest news in national action was the Tar Heels taking down Johns Hopkins in Maryland. The win knocked Hopkins from the top spot allowing Virginia to reclaim to. Loyola, who Denver plays at home in two weeks, and UMASS remain the only undefeated teams in the country.
The Pioneers take on Bellarmine at Peter Barton Stadium this Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
