The Denver Pioneers fell to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in ECAC play during the 2012 college lacrosse season after a 12-9 loss to the No. 4 Loyola Greyhounds. The Pioneers have an ECAC game against Fairfield next week before playing Duke in the Mile High Classic to close out the regular season.
Loyola started the scoring with two goals over the first seven minutes of the game before Cameron Flint put the Pioneers on the board. The Greyhounds ended the first period with a 4-2 lead and went into halftime with a 6-5 lead.
Jeremy Noble recorded a hat trick in this game, his first goal tying the game at 5-5 in the second quarter and his second knotting the game at 7-7 in the third quarter. His final goal, though, came with 1:54 left in the game and cut the Greyhounds' lead to 11-9.
Eric Adamson's goal with 8:24 left in the third gave the Pioneers their only lead of the game, 8-7. That capped a three-goal scoring stretch for the Pioneers before the Greyhounds put up four unanswered goals.
Mark Matthews was held goalless while Alex Demopoulos scored two goals and tallied four points. Chase Carraro assisted on a goal and won 21-of-25 faceoffs. Goalie Ryan LaPlante allowed all 12 goals and made 12 saves.
