The Denver Pioneers got one step closer to a Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship on Sunday night with a 61-50 win over South Alabama in the quarterfinal round. Brian Stafford and Rob Lewis paced the Pioneers with 14 points apiece.
Denver built on its halftime advantage to lead by as many as 10 points in the second half, but the Jaguars were able to rally and pull within two points with about five minutes to go. From there, though, the Pioneers took control of the game and South Alabama did not score another point.
Denver will play the winner of the Arkansas-Little Rock vs. Western Kentucky game on Monday.
