Hartford Vs. Denver: Pioneers Lacrosse Looks For 3rd Win Of Season

The Denver Pioneers (2-1) have Saturday's home game against the Hartford Hawks as their final tuneup before they start a four-game road trip next weekend. The Pioneers are ranked No. 12/14 after winning both games last week during the DU Face-Off Classic, defeating the Michigan Wolverines and the Robert Morris Colonials.

Hartford was favored to win the America East in the preseason, but they have gotten off to an 0-2 start following losses to the Maryland Terrapins (12-6) and the Holy Cross Crusaders (15-14 OT). Kevin O'Shea, Aidan Genik and Carter Bender are tied for the team-lead with six points, though O'Shea has a team-high five goals. Scott Bennett has started both games, allowed all 27 goals and put up a .460 save percentage.

Denver, meanwhile, is looking to keep up its offensive attack from last weekend when it scored 38 goals over two games. As expected, Mark Matthews is the team leader in points with 13, but Eric Law has a team-high 11 goals as part of his 12 points. Alex Demopoulos is also off to a great start with six assists and 11 points.

Coach Bill Tierney, who won game No. 300 last weekend, has started Jamie Faus in two games, but has also given a start to Troy Orzech. Erik Carter has seen 6:36 in net, as well.

This game starts at 1:00 p.m. MT on Saturday before being rebroadcast on Comcast CET channel 105 several times over the coming week.
