The Denver Pioneers announced on Saturday morning that sophomore goalie Jamie Faus will miss the remainder of the 2012 following surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon in his left leg. His recovery is expected to take six months.
Faus experienced the Achilles tendon injury last Sunday just prior to the third overtime period against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a game the Pioneers lost, 10-9. Troy Orzech replaced Faus for that final period and allowed the game-winning goal.
On Tuesday, freshman Ryan LaPlante started against Cornell and took the loss. He allowed the game-tying goal with just six seconds left in regulation and then the game-winner a little over a minute into overtime.
Faus had an outstanding freshman season in 2011 with an 8.55 GAA and a 55.7 save percentage. He followed that this season with an 8.17 GAA and a 52.4 save percentage.
