The No. 3 seed Denver Pioneers are one and done in the 2012 NCAA Hockey Tournament following its 2-1 loss to the No. 2 Ferris St. Bulldogs on Friday evening. The Bulldogs await the winner of Friday night's game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Cornell Big Red.
Ferris State held a 1-0 lead heading into the third period and then made a cushion for itself at just 2:54 into the final frame. Simon Denis picked up his first career goal for Ferris State on that play. Denver finally got on the board at 5:22 in the period when Drew Shore scored on a backhander with assists to Luke Salazar and John Ryder.
Sam Brittain made 32 saves on 34 shots for the Pioneers, but Ferris State's Taylor Nelson stopped 25 of 26 shots to best Denver's sophomore goalie.
The Pioneers will now wait to see if any of its players will turn pro. Jason Zucker is widely expected to sign with the Minnesota Wild while Drew Shore could sign with the Florida Panthers.
