NCAA Lacrosse Rankings 2012: Denver Pioneers Continue To Climb

The Denver Pioneers pulled off a huge road victory on Saturday when they defeated the Penn St. Nittany Lions, 14-6, in State College. The win over the previously No. 10 ranked Nittany Lions gave the Pioneers their fourth straight victory since an opening day loss to Ohio State and allowed them to move up in both polls. Denver now sits at No. 9 in the Nike Media Poll and the USILA Coaches Poll.

Denver was never really challenged in the blow out win over PSU, with a seven-goal second quarter fueling the Pioneers to a 10-goal first half, and a late run such as the one the Hartford Hawks had one week earlier not occuring this time around.

The biggest action of the weekend saw Virginia take down Cornell in the Konica Minolta Face-Off Class to retain the number one spot. Cornell stayed at third in the media poll, but fell one spot in the coaches. Loyola continued their ascent up the rankings beating No. 6 Duke on Saturday.

The 4-1 Pioneers continue their four game road trip this Sunday in South Bend when they take on No. 7/8 Notre Dame at 11:00 a.m.
