Michigan Vs. Denver: Pioneers Host DU Face-Off Classic

The No. 11 ranked Denver Pioneers look to rebound from a heart breaking 10-9 season-opening loss to the Ohio St. Buckeyes in the Moe's Southwest Grill Classic when they take on the Michigan Wolverines today at 1:30. Today's game is part of the DU Face-Off Classic, a 4-team round robin that includes Denver, Michigan, Robert Morris and Air Force and takes place at Denver's Peter Barton Stadium.

The Pioneers loss last Sunday to OSU was their first loss suffered in ECAC play with Tierney at the helm and the first loss to an unranked team since losing to Jacksonville in 2010. Denver entered the fourth quarter tied at eight with the Buckeyes, but Ohio State took the lead on goals from Dominique Alexander and Logan Schuss, who scored his 5th goal of the game. DU was able to score one final goal to bring the game to within one, but was unable to net the equalizer.

Michigan comes into their first game of the Face-Off Classic with a 0-2 record in their first season of D-I lacrosse. They made the leap from club play this season after winning three straight nation titles at that level from 2008-10.

Doug Bryant, Thomas Paras and Alex Vasileff lead the Wolverines with five points each, with Will Meter and David McCormack right behind with four points a piece. Goalkeeper Dylan Westerhold has a 13.84 goals against average and a .366 save percentage.

Pioneers head coach Bill Tierney will again try and reach win No. 300.

Game time/date: 1:30 p.m. MT, Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012
