The Denver Pioneers took a tumble in the first in-season top 20 polls during the 2012 lacrosse season. The Pioneers started as the preseason No. 5 team, but a 10-9 loss to the Ohio St. Buckeyes dropped them down to No. 11 in the Nike Poll and No. 12 in the USILA Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes went from being unranked to moving up to No. 12 in the Nike Poll and No. 11 in the Coaches Poll.

The Buckeyes improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in ECAC play while Denver is 0-1 in both. Loyola (1-1, 0-0) is the only other ECAC team ranked in the polls (16/13).

The Pioneers will host the DU Face-Off Classic this weekend at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, playing Michigan and Robert Morris. The Air Force Falcons are also in the tournament, but the Pioneers will play them later in the season in ECAC action.
