Denver Pioneers head coach Bill Tierney must wait until another day to pick up win No. 300. On Sunday afternoon, his team fell to the unranked Ohio St. Buckeyes, 10-9. It was the first loss the team suffered in ECAC play with Tierney at the helm and the first loss to an unranked team since losing to Jacksonville in 2010.
The Pioneers entered the final quarter of play tied at eight with the Buckeyes, but it didn't take long for Ohio State to take the lead. Dominique Alexander and Logan Schuss, who scored his 5th goal of the game, put the Buckeyes into a 10-8 lead.
Alex Demopoulos brought the score to 10-9 on a shot he took while falling to the ground. The Pioneers had a chance at the end for a final attack on the net, only to see a pass sail high and out of bounds.
The Pioneers will host the DU Face-Off Classic next weekend, welcoming Air Force, Michigan and Robert Morris to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Denver plays Michigan on Saturday and Robert Morris on Sunday.
