The Denver Pioneers swept the Minnesota Gophers over the weekend by picking up a 4-3 overtime victory on Saturday night. The Pioneers defeated the Gophers on Friday night, 5-3, to open up the season.
Minnesota took a lead just 38 seconds into the game when Erik Haula netted his 12th goal of the season. Zach Budish made it 2-0 Minnesota with a power play at 15:17 in the second period, but Chris Knowlton answered back two minutes and change later on with his 10th goal of the season.
In the third period, Luke Salazar and Nick Shore each put in a power play goal for the Pioneers while Nico Sacchetti wedged a goal in between those two for Minnesota. The teams then went into overtime, but Nick Shore struck again and won the game for the Pioneers just 17 seconds into the extra fame.
The Pioneers are now 17-9-4 and will visit the Wisconsin Badgers next week.
