Minnesota Vs. Denver: Pioneers Welcome No. 1 Ranked Gophers To Town

The No. 14 Denver Pioneers hope to rebound from losing the Gold Pan Trophy to Colorado College by taking down the No. 1 ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers in a two game series Friday and Saturday at Magness Arena. Tonight's game will be nationally televised on NBC Sports Network and Saturday's game will be available on Root Sports.

The Pioneers were not able to hold onto a two goal lead in the Tuesday night tie with the Tigers as penalties gave CC the opportunity to claw their way back into the game. Early goals by senior Nate Dewhurst and Drew Shore put Denver up 2-0 eleven minutes into the contest. Two second period goals by Colorado College evened up the score and it stayed that way through the end of overtime.

Denver has won it's last four games at Magness Arena, but tonight they welcome a Golden Gopher team that has won their last three games. The Gophers are one of the top defensive teams in the nation, but they can score as well. In fact, Minnesota has the second ranked offense and defense so far this season. The Pioneers are 8-2 in their last 10 meetings against the Gophers, but they fell 7-3 the last time the two teams met in 2011.
