The No. 10/11 Denver Pioneers skated to a 1-1 tie with the Bemidji State Beavers on Friday night at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.
Denver (9-5-3) got on the board first on Chris Knowlton's power play goal with 2:20 remaining in the opening period. The Pioneers held their ground until Bemidji State (4-8-3) knotted the game on Aaron McLeod's goal with eight and a half minutes left.
The Pioneers imposed their will on the Beavers, registering 34 shots on goal compared to just 21 for Bemidji State. However' DU's persistence at the net didn't pay off, as Beavers goaltender Andrew Walsh made 33 saves, including 12 in the third period and overtime.
Denver will finish up a two-game set against Bemidji State on Saturday at 6:07 p.m. MT before taking a two-week break. The Pioneers will resume play on Dec. 29 against Boston University in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game at Magness Arena in Denver, Colo.
