The No. 2 Denver Pioneers continued their winning ways, outlasting the No. 14 Colorado College Tigers 6-5, Friday. Scoring was well rounded for the Pioneers as they got two points each from sophomore Joey LaLeggia, junior David Makowski, and senior Paul Phillips.

The Pioneers started fast, as Makowski scored 85 seconds into the game off a pass from junior Nick Shore. The Pioneers quickly went up 2-0 when sophomore Scott Mayfield scored off a pass from Grant Arnold. That score held until early in the second period when the Tigers' Rylan Schwartz made it 2-1. The Tigers tied the game in the 13th minute of the second period. The Pioneers added three goals from sophomore Matt Tabrum, freshman Gabe Levin and LaLeggia to take a 5-2 lead in to the third period.

The Pioneers seemed to put the game out of reach less than two minutes in to the third period when a Shawn Ostrow goal put them up 6-2. Undeterred, the Tigers quickly scored two goals in the next eight minutes to close their deficit to two goals. They added another goal with 1:25 left in the game to make the score 6-5. The Pioneers held off the Tigers in the final minute to improve their record to 8-1 overall, 6-1 in conference.

The two teams face off again tonight, this time at Magness Arena. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m. MT. The game is being broadcast on ROOT Sports.
