The 2011-12 season came to a disappointing end for the Denver Pioneers as they were upset by Western Kentucky in the semifinals of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. However, the University of Denver men's basketball team will begin again on Friday when they have their first practice at 5 p.m. MT in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Speaking to DenverPioneers.com, Pioneers head coach Joe Scott said that he is optimistic about the group that finished with the Sun Belt Conference's third best record for the 2011-12 season:
"I'm really looking forward to working with this group of guys as we have a veteran team with a youthful, fresh feel. There is an energetic vibe going."
The 2012-13 season though, will be a new experience for the Pioneers as it will be their first as members of the Western Athletic Conference. With several new teams added to the conference, the top spot is wide open as the reigning champions, the Nevada Wolf Pack left for the Mountain West Conference.
The Pioneers finished 22-9 overall and 11-5 in Sun Belt play during the 2011-12 season.
