Denver Vs. North Texas: Pioneers Look To Stay Atop Sun Belt West Standings

The Denver Pioneers (15-4, 5-1) take to the road for a matchup against the North Texas Mean Green (11-8, 4-2).

The Denver Pioneers currently own a share of the top spot in the Sun Belt's western division by virtue of their 5-1 conference record, but the only way for the team to stay in that top spot is to defeat the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday night in Denton, TX. The Mean Green are lurking behind the Pioneers in the division with a 4-2 in-conference record, and have won four of their five of their past five games. The good news for Denver is that they have also won four of their last five, and have also ripped off nine of 11 games going back to December 14th.

How have the Pioneers been doing it? A very efficient offensive attack. The team ranks 11th nationally in field-goal percentage (49.4 percent) and 23rd nationally in assists per game (16.1). Denver's Brian Stafford (47.0 percent), Royce O'Neale (47.7 percent) and Brett Olson (44.4 percent ) are lethal shooters from three-point range. In the paint they turn to sophomore forward Chris Udofia, who is averaging 14.3 points on 53.2 percent shooting from the field. Udofia has scored at least 10 points in nine of the last ten games.

For the Mean Green, they are led by Tony Mitchell and Chris Jones. Both players average 14.1 points per game, but Mitchell is the real threat, as he shoots 64.6 percent from the field and grabs a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game too.
