The Denver Pioneers beat the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 63-48 on Thursday night, pushing their record against Sun Belt Conference opponents to 5-1 this season. The Pioneers are in the midst of their best Division-I start in school history, having won 15 of their first 19 games.
Denver got out to an early lead against Louisiana-Monroe, going into halftime up 36-18. From there, the Pioneers simply held onto their lead as the Warhawks tried to make a comeback at home. Louisiana-Monroe has struggled all season long, though, easily at the bottom of the Sun Belt standings with a 2-18 overall record (1-6 in conference).
Brian Stafford led the Pioneers in scoring with 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Chris Udofia also had an effective game with 12 points and eight rebounds and Royce O'Neale added 10 points and eight rebounds. Charles Winborne was Louisiana-Monroe's leading scorer with 18 points, no other Warhawk scorer got into double-digits.
