The Colorado College evened the Battle for the Gold Pan series with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Denver Pioneers on Friday night. The Pioneers had won the mid-November contest, 5-4.
The Tigers won the game on a penalty shot by Alexander Krushelnyski, who was tripped by David Makowski at 3:46 in overtime. That was Krushelnyski's second goal of the game, as he scored a power play goal at 9:51 in the first period, the first goal of the game.
Denver's Jason Zucker scored the next two goals for the Pioneers, giving the team a brief lead into the second period. Scott Winkler wound up tying the game at two just six minutes into the second period. Joe Marciano gave the Tigers the 3-2 lead with a power play goal at 14:46 in the second period.
Beau Bennett tied the game at three with less than six minutes remaining in regulation. Nick Shore picked up his second assist of the night and Zucker had his first assist of the game.
Juho Olkinuora continues to start in place of the injured Adam Murray for the Pioneers. He allowed 28 goals on 32 shots. Colorado College's Joe Howe allowed three goals on 30 shots.
The Pioneers fell to 6-5-3 while the Tigers are now 8-4-0. The next leg of the Battle for the Gold Pan doesn't take place until Feb. 2, 2012, when the Pioneers host at Magness Arena.
