NCAA Basketball Rankings: Kentucky Moves To No. 1 In AP Poll After North Carolina's Loss To UNLV

The UNLV Rebels knocked off the previously No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels over the weekend. The Rebels entered the AP Poll at No. 18 and the Kentucky Wildcats moved to the No. 1 spot. UNC is now No. 5.

The latest AP Top 25 Basketball Poll is out and the Kentucky Wildcats are the new No. 1 team in the country. The North Carolina Tar Heels fell from the top spot after a 90-80 loss to the UNLV Runnin' Rebels on Saturday. Ohio State, Duke, Syracuse and North Carolina finished out the top five this week.

The Memphis Tigers took a big tumble this week, from No. 8 to No. 22. The Tigers needed two overtime periods to defeat the Tennessee Volunteers, 99-97 and then lost to the Georgetown Hoyas, 91-88, in another overtime game. Connecticut remained in the top 10 at No. 9 despite a 68-63 loss to the Central Florida Knights.

UNLV received 23 votes last week and with the victory over the Tar Heels jumped to No. 18 this week. The Rebels are now 7-0 on the season. The St. Louis Billikens entered the poll at No. 23. The team beat Boston College, Villanova and Oklahoma over the last week to improve to 6-0.

The California Golden Bears defeated Georgia, lost to Missouri and won against the Denver Pioneers, but fell to No. 24 in the poll.
